That Revolutionary Idea of Trading Carlos Lee

One has got to be almost 100% sure that in Melvins head he knows Carlos will absolutely be moved, and that he just won't go out and say it in hopes of a better bounty.

Come on - this isn't the year. Even if, say, the Crew made a huge turnaround a la 2005 Cleveland Indians.... chances are, like the '05 Indians, we wouldn't make the playoffs. And losing in the divisional series wouldn't appease me.

While it certainly is time to see some results, you can't let that cloud your decisions to help the team, and trading carlos could prove HUGE in '08-'09 if we're making a pennant run, either by a solid position player by then or a mid-season call-up sparkplug.

I see it like either we can't decide when we want to contend and end up with maybe a couple 3rd places finishes and maybe one year close to the wild card, or we follow suit of the Marlins and realistically see when it's a good time to prepare for the future (although, in the case of the Crew, the not-so-distant future).

Also, I'd like to see everyones opinion condensed in a diary instead of splattered around multiple posts.

may i also mention
that i feel Cruz and Hart need to be getting substantial playing time in the bigs ASAP. I wouldn't mind if all of our 3 opening day OF's were traded.
Carlos Lee (MIL) is traded to LAA for McPherson, Morales, Saunders, Kendrick, Wood, Aybar, Mathis, Je. Weaver, and Napoli...

i didn't vote in the poll...
because, while i agree that we will not make the playoffs, i just am not convinced that we can't keep carlos in milwaukee and that we will be better off without him. is he worth the deal he'll get is the question for me.

but in the end, i say if the right deal comes along, do it. i'm confident in melvin. you make a good point in looking to 08-09, but doesn't it seem like we always say that? 'oh, just wait a couple years and it will pay off.' i remember saying the same thing when sexson got traded to milwaukee from cleveland. i couldn't wait until a couple years, but then 2002 turned out to be one of the most miserable seasons in brewers history.

so i know that trading carlos is probably the best thing in the long term. but my heart yearns for march when i was convinced the brewers would make a wild card run. and with lee hitting like he is, all i have to say is...

STUPID JENKINS! PUT UP SOME DECENT NUMBERS WHEN IT COUNTS!

oh no
by prospects in the poll, i meant draft picks (and i'm having trouble changing it)

whoops
my bad, i meant to say that i was having trouble making up my mind, and therefore didn't vote in the poll. the poll itself is clear, i am not.

so much to think about
i really think trading carlos and getting some great prospects is the way to go.  The brewers are lucky to be 46-50 right now.  Even if toma and sheets pitch lights out, i don't think it's going to show on our record because we're probably due for some regression in the 2nd half.  Trade Lee and trade jenkins.  Get some good prospects in return and give our young outfielders some experience in the outfield.  I would prefer trading jenkins to the twins because it would be sweet to watch him make them worse, but terry ryan hates guys who strike out a lot.

FWIW
I haven't seen many rumors involving Jenkins.  For the most part, just El Caballo and Brady Clark (of all people).

Plus Chad Moeller, but he's untouchable.
