Thoughts On The Off-Day
Just a couple random thoughts...
At the Baseball Musings Day by Day Database, I did a search for all the Brewers' statistics since August 11th. That's the day Ned Yost officially benched Geoff Jenkins and installed Corey Hart as a full-time starter.
Corey Hart - .286/.325/.562, 112 AB, 7 HR, 17 RBIGeoff Jenkins - .333/.446/.511, 45 AB, 2 HR, 6 RBI
Interesting. A kick in the pants has kicked Jenkins into gear? Obviously, with the injuries to Gabe Gross and Laynce Nix, plus the collapse of Kevin Mench, Jenkins has probably gotten more playing time than he normally would have. The only negative for Hart is that I'd wish he'd boost that on-base a little more.
A couple other interesting statistics during that timespan:
Bill Hall - .243/.369/.505, 107 AB, 6 HR, 16 RBI, 32 K (Ouch)Tony Graffanino - .296/.362/.448, 125 AB, 19 R, 16 RBI
Prince Fielder - .240/.333/.413, 104, 4 HR, 15 RBI (Hitting the wall?)
Kevin Mench - .187/.205/.267, 75 AB, 6 RBI (Where's the AL pitching?)
Brady Clark - .185/.241/.259, 81 AB
Next, the Brewers currently have scored 646 runs, while allowing 738 runs. After 146 games, they are on pace to score 717 runs (-1.3% from 2005) and allow 819 runs (17.5% from 2005). It's no wonder they are playing at a .452 percentage, yet their home attendance pace is running 7.9% over 2005. Go figure...wait, I just realized this is Milwaukee.

Cool
One thought has been running through my head all week. Remember this Simpsons episode? Krusty took all his money and bet it on the Washington Generals because "they were due!" Sometimes I feel like this is Yost's philosophy, on why he keeps on playing Jenkins, keeping starters in too long, or warming up relievers incessantly.
Which brings us to the next question: Who would you rather play? Mench or Jenkins?
