Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Phils, Astros complete Roy Oswalt deal

Tom Glavine Free Agent

Tom Glavine opted out of his contract, which seems as good a time as any to start wild speculation.

Pure hypothetical.  Suppose Tom Glavine called up the 'stache and said, "You know what?  I love your core, and I think you just need another vet on your staff.  I'm tired of all the New York media scrutiny, and pitching in Milwaukee might allow me to have some fun."

Aside from disbelief, you aren't sure how to react.

Suppose you are given these two contract offers.

(1)
2 year, $24 million deal
Year 1:  $10 million
Year 2:  $14 million player option

(2)
3 year, $36 million dollar deal, $25 million over the first two years, $11 million mutual option for year 3.

Would either one of these be a good idea for the Brewers?  How much real value would he bring?

I'm sure there's approximately no chance he'd sign in Milwaukee, but I figure I might as well toss it out while it's still fun to think about.

actually
because he had a $3MM buyout, he only opted out of $10MM -- he gets that first three mil anyway.

Still a lot of money for a guy whose age starts with a "4."

Weird, but not weird.

and ends with a "hundred"

Explanation
Apparently after 2006, he wanted to go back to Atlanta.  So, my thought is that perhaps he wanted out of New York, and might take less money to play somewhere else with less media scrutiny.

Well Yost might help in getting him
I really don't want him though.  The Mets were one of the best defensive teams in baseball last year ans the Brewers one of the worst.  Glavine's FIP was 4.86 and once you put the Brewers defense behind him that will go over 5.  That isn't even including him getting any worse which 40+ year olds tend to do.
