Yes!
This is basically the best-case scenario after finishing second to the Cubs.

man
we could be looking at 4 sweeps in this first round. crazy

much more shocking to me
is that all the games so far have been won by the teams I like.  Not even that I predicted they would win -- I'm not even thinking about that.  I picked my favorites, and so far my favorites are 10-0.

I wish that had worked during the regular season :(.

Weird, but not weird.

you don't know any umpires do you? :)

ha.
if I did, I probably would've gravely offended them by now with my commentary on their job skills.

you are not alone, jeff. me too...
Asked what was said during the phone conversation with LaRussa, Yost said, "That falls under 'nobody's business" right; except all brewer fans who wanted a win!

by Jamie in LA on Oct 7, 2007 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep......
.....the Cubs tanked in the playoffs. No doubt about it. Criticism of them seems pretty hollow though coming from fans of the team that couldn't outlast the tanking Cubs.

And since Yost's coming back, does that auger for more of the same next year? Only time will tell.

yeah
it really sucks how, since we root for a 2nd place team, our opinions are worth less.
Weird, but not weird.

by Jeff Sackmann on Oct 7, 2007 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Never said they were worthless....
.... and it's natural to want to see a foe vanquished. However, criticism always seems more credible when tempered with realism. But until the Brewers can take the Division, which is possible because they're a good team, be careful the glee doesn't betray more than a little envy.

you're right
i wish we were swept out of the playoffs, had billions upon billions of curses, and that we'll win a world series sometimes after 2057...envy is the right word

Siggghhh....
...look. If the Diamondbacks lose to the Rockies, I doubt you'll see one post, much less a diary, on Bleed Cubbie Blue, that says they're glad Arizona lost. Why? Because in order to bolster your own team, you want to be able to say at least when they lost, they lost to a team who made it all the way. To take unmitigated joy in an Arizona series loss for a Cub fan this year would be to more than indirectly admit the Cubs really didn't have what it takes. You'd like to not think that.

Moreover, the N.L. Central was dubbed Comedy Central by many people. I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to think that at least the Brewers and Cubs were better teams than their records showed. Also, at times, the Reds, Pirates and Cards played much better than their records indicated. But if you're going to continue to bash the Cubs by definition you're denigrating your own team in the process, because if we assume that to be true, what does that say about the Brewers? After all, who couldn't beat the team that just got swept?

So as I said earlier, it's natural to a degree to want to see a foe lose, but after a while, you might as well hang that "L" on your own front porch for all it eventually says about your team.

Well
Perhaps a team with a better offense would have taken at least a game. Either way, I'm kind of bummed you didn't post your Wrigley Field webcam link near the end of last night's game.

Just for historical accuracy
When you're in the middle of hastily getting swept in a three game series, does the L flag come down?  For example, after losing in game 1, does it come down in games 2 and 3, only to be put back up again, or does it just stay up there as a matter of course until the next win?

And how about now?  After ending the season losing 4 in a row and 7 of 9, does the L flag stay up for the whole offseason?

I realize hindsight is 20/20, but as it turned out, it would have been more efficient to just keep the L flag waving from the last game of the Reds series.  Better still, why not replace the C on the Cubs uniform with the L from the flag?  Then you wouldn't need the flag at all.

:)

You know he is right.
There is a lot of envy at work here.

I'll admit that I wish it was the Brewers that made the playoffs and I wish we had the financial flexibility the Cubs have (or had, now that their spending is about to handcuff them for a couple of years).  Now he should admit that he wishes he had our 1st baseman, our 2nd baseman, our 3rd baseman, our right fielder, our shortstop, a young starter like Gallardo, oh and Doug Melvin and Jack Z. in their front office.

After all, it's a time for honesty, isn't it?

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Oct 7, 2007 3:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Whaa?
So no one in the NL Central can point out what a horrible horrible choke the Cubs just pulled?  Actually, I feel kind of vindicated: although we couldn't hold on to our lead, it's nice to know that Cubs are still the Cubs.

And it's augur, you dope, unless you're saying you want to drill a hole in Ned Yost.  (In which case, get in line.)

Come on.
That was clever.  You can't take offense at that.  Come back so we can actually earn your outraged exit.

On second thought, never mind.

I actually was debating
whether or not to call him a dope.  I usually don't do name-calling, and I'm actually impressed by the attempt to use "augur" correctly.  Good vocabulary skills there, even if the spelling wasn't spot on.

But in the end, my worse nature won out.  That, and I like the word "dope."

But thanks for coming to my defense.  :)

Back when the Brewers went out to the Desert
and took 2 of 3 from the Snakes after taking 3 of 4 at Miller Park the Snake fans on their boards and blogs were pretty open about the fact they would rather face the Cubs than the Brewers.

Now we all know why.

If the Brewers can fix their bull pen and that is a big if in this crappy FA market(yes Jeff I know we might be able to do it in house I am paying attention really lol) I like their chance next season against the Cubs.

I am already counting the days till opening day down at the dump.

Right now which fan base is more up about next season Cubs fans or Brewers fans?  I would have to say Brewers fans.

My God Yost is coming back the 2008 season is already a disaster and they have not thrown a pitch yet. ;)

i was hoping
that the cubs losing would cause them to leave us alone here......

Driving through Chicago today
I spent about an hour listening to sports radio.

Here were observations that were made by fans, in no particular order:

  1.  Marquis contract (entering year 2 of 3 yr/$21 million deal) needs to be traded.
  2.  Jacque Jones should have value to someone.
  3.  They need to get Soriano out of the leadoff spot and get someone there more like Juan Pierre or Scott Podsednik.
All in all, I was pretty amused.
