You know you miss him...
The Cardinals had a $900,000 option, but declined it. I think that's probably smart. It's true, there aren't very many good defensive catchers out there, but Bennett takes good-field, no-hit to a whole new level.
My projection system gives him a median forecast of .231/.281/.267, which is almost Sheets-ian.
After 2008, my system projects Bennett to be more than 100 points of OPS below replacement level. And for catchers, that's really, really bad.
Anyway, just a friendly reminder that good catching help is hard to come by...but Gary Bennett is out there.
