Cards Aquire Mike Maroth

The Cardinals have traded a ptbnl for Tigers starter Mike Maroth, and he will likely make his first for the cards against New York next week.

The Cards are revamping a bit; having added our buddy Tomo Ohka recently, as well as being rumored to be interested in Mark Buehrle if the White Sox decide to deal him.  Personally I find the Buehrle speculation far fetched: he will be a free agent this offseason, the Sox are going to want the world for him, and the Cardinals just aren't very good- I don't think adding Buehrle makes them a playoff contender unless Cris Carpenter comes back much, much sooner than expected.

Either way, they are trying- anybody worried?
Yeah, me neither.

yeah no
it's not enough to worry me yet.  maroth and ohka are not exactly going to make their pitching staff dominant.  it's going to take quite a slide - one worse than the crew already went through, in order for the cards to have a shot at catching us.  their stars are aging and not producing well this season, and teams are going to continue to batter them and score lots of runs, so i just don't see a legitimate threat growing from that team.  i highly doubt buehrle will be headed there, they really need to concentrate on re-building themselves a bit and just hope pujols sticks around long enough for them to contend in a couple years again.

More Worrying...
Carpenter is ahead of schedule... Looks like mid to late July now.

Maroth and Ohka
do not scare me at all.  Heck Carpenter isn't that scary to me either.  Ohka makes me salivate with the pounding the Brewers could give him, and Maroth is just so-so in my mind.  Carpenter has never really impressed me that much, he's like Capuano in my mind, just better.  He's definately touchable, and Ryan Braun will take him deep the first inning he pitches against us.  It will be a nice 3-run shot to right field.

But in all seriousness, these moves seem a tad desperate.  Ohka won't pan out i'm thinking, and Maroth is just average at best.

I hope I'm missing the sarcasm
How is Carpenter like Capuano in any way?  We'll see how he looks when he gets back, but if he never impressed you then you must be difficult to impress.

Actually
i didn't write that right at all.  I meant his fastball is pretty close to Capuano, but his other pitches are much better than Cappys.  And i was also wrong to say he doesn't impress me, cause he does and has, what i meant was that he doesn't really scare me all that much.  He's a really good pitcher, and i didn't mean to disrespect that fact, he just doesn't scare me too much as a fan.
