left hander
just wanted to get everyones thoughts on our situational left hander. Has Shouses' ran his course? Do you think we need to get rid of him and replace him with someone. Or with the log jam in the pen is there a place to add another left hander. Here are a few names to ponder that could be available for not alot of scratch.
Steve Kline SF
Mike Stanton Cin
Jimmy Gobble KC

I'm not a fan
but
I'd hate to lose even a semi-valuable trading chip to replace one mediocre pitcher with another.

Shouse
Consider this. Shouse has better career numbers against lefties than Mike Stanton does and Stanton is just getting rocked when facing lefties this year. Of course, Stanton's numbers against lefties should improve when his .459 BABIP drops. Shouse compares well to Kline and Gobble as well.
Kline is signed through next season ($1.75M), as is Stanton ($3M), while Gobble is still arbitration-eligible. It would be kind of weird if the Royals gave him up.

shouse
just thinking for this season. I'm sure the Giants would dump Kline for that much dough.

Egads, man
Personally, I don't think any of those guys is a big enough upgrade (if any) over Shouse to make it worth trading anything for them.

JOE THATCHER
In 2005, between Helena and Brevard:
16.6 IP, 1.67 ERA, .904 WHIP, 13 K/9, .54 BB/9
In 2006, between WV, Brevard and Huntsville:
65.6 IP, 1.40 ERA, .899 WHIP, 10.98 K/9, 2.33 BB/9
This year, between Huntsville and Nashville:
28 IP, 1.29 ERA, .893 WHIP, 12.54 K/9, 1.61 BB/9
Best case scenario for me, trade Vargas to make room for Cappy, replace Capellan and Spurling with Thatcher and Parra (or Balfour) in the pen.

parra
Not so sure we'll be able to replicate the success of Gallardo up here with parra or thatcher.
not so sure i'd trade vargas. As davey Nelson said on the pregame. He throws alot of pitches though. He needs to get ahead.
