Your 2007 Milwaukee Brewers All-Stars are...

No real surprise to anyone.  Prince was voted in, of course, and also making the team are: JJ Hardy, Ben Sheets, and Francisco Cordero.

No Brewers made the 'final vote' gimmick, which is also not really a surprise.

Unlike some past years, I don't really think that anybody on the team could say that they have been passed over.  Ned's advocacy of Turnbow aside, I really don't think he deserved to go.

In fact, I'd almost say the Crew came out ahead in the props department, as Hardy could have been fairly easily passed over- and I think in years past he very well might have.  I suppose that is one of the benefits of having a winning team.

Anyhow here's hoping that the National league makes us all proud and gets the Crew home field advantage for the World Series. :)

Wow!!!!!!!
While all four DO deserve to go, I can't believe that the rest of baseball and the fans took notice. Hopefully, it's a sign of things to come. Go Brewers!

Hardy over Rollins
was probably a very close decision.  The Brewers' record and lead in the division probably tipped it in Hardy's favor.

I'm surprised
Not that Hardy got on, though. Passing over Hanley Ramirez seems pretty tough. His numbers aren't that far removed from Jose Reyes'. I certainly think he was more deserving of a spot than Freddy Sanchez (why not put Gorzelanny/Snell on the squad instead?)

I wonder
If Neddy Ballgame hadn't piddled around with Corey Hart earlier in the season, do you think we'd have 5 all-stars now?

Or
If Lloyd Braun had started the season at third, would we have six?

Well, probably not.  I'd guess if either of those things had happened Hardy would have got the shaft.

by sheeter on Jul 1, 2007 7:00 PM CDT up reply actions

I doubt it
I tend to think his wrist was hurting more than the team let on. If they made him play through it, I'm sure he'd have had Weeks-like trouble with the bat.

his wrist
Why does everyone forget about corey and his ailing wrist? Ned doesnt hate him, he was hurt. try playing baseball with a sprained wrist and see how well you perform.
Ned for Prez!! Seriously, he needs a new job.

Well...
you don't really know that Ned doesn't hate him, do you?

Actually
I think he's Kevin Mench, and he doesn't want us sniffing around too much.  To the Mystery Machine, Scoob!

The master plan
I guess plenty of people forget about Ned's master plan, too.....400 AB for Mench, Jenkins and Hart.  Sure, it's easy to hide behind the wrist injury now, but Yost had no intention of starting Corey Hart every day until it became painfully obvious that the Brewers needed him in the lineup every day.

by Marty McSuperFly on Jul 2, 2007 8:03 AM CDT up reply actions

Or
Yost was planning on Kevin Mench being gullible enough to believe that quote and not complain about playing time. Of course, that would indict you as a rather gullible chap as well.

Nice
There is no way JJ could have been passed over.  None.

by Dikembe Meiztombo on Jul 1, 2007 8:35 PM CDT reply actions

I don't know about that
JJ is certainly deserving, but with only one shortstop besides Reyes (who was voted in by the fans) on the NL roster, he could have been left off.  Hanley Ramirez and Edgar Renteria are both having very good years too.

What the hell.
I feel like we have a major lack of homer-ism here.

Homer-ism is trumped by realism

by Zel123 on Jul 1, 2007 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Well
The Brewers have four all-stars and we're happy about that. Realism says Hardy could have been passed over, but he wasn't, and I doubt anyone here wanted him to be. Would it be better if we were mad Rickie Weeks couldn't have charged up from fourth in voting among second basemen despite his .234 average?

haha thats too funny
thinking the brewers will get to the world series, hahahaha, theres no way your making it out of the national league, right now this is a do-or-die season like the 2005 white sox or 2006 tigers had, you either win it in this year or you probably wont for a very very long time, the white sox did, the tigers didnt, and the brewers certainly wont, even if you do make it to the world series which would be a long shot, good luck beating the angels or red sox or indians or tigers

by CubsBall2202 on Jul 2, 2007 1:46 PM CDT reply actions

tigers
Yeah, the Tigers collapsed. They didn't even make it to the 2007 World Series!

Jackass.

by gsparks on Jul 2, 2007 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Do or Die season?
Do or die seasons come from teams that are old.  Do you have no sense that this team is one of the youngest in the league, meaning that they are only going to get better.  They may lose sheets soon, but other than that, most of the stars are locked up.

Did you watch the world series last year? The cardinals, with a .500 record beat the american league tigers.  Once you make the world series, anything can happen.

Finally, every team in the national league central has aging stars. So why would the brewers, the youngest and best team now, decline in the years to come, when its the rest of the division aging much more rapidly?  Also, every baseball analyst had the brewers being a sleeper team this year.  Their point being that the team is up and coming and instead of their time being in the future, it could be now.

Now lets hear your reasoning for the brewers decline.

Ned for Prez!! Seriously, he needs a new job.

I bet
he was trolling Cardinals blogs as "cardinalschoke04" three years ago, telling them that if they don't win the World Series that year, it's all over for them. :)

by Zeyes on Jul 2, 2007 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

first off, analysts know shit
everyone on espn except gammons and reynolds back when he was still employed, when it comes to october pitching is what wins, sheets is a very good pitcher, other than him who is there, suppan is mediocre and will not repeat what he did last year, vargas is awful, bush is below average, this staff isnt going to win a world series against say a beckett schilling matsuzaka staff

by CubsBall2202 on Jul 2, 2007 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

gosh
I can't imagine why ESPN doesn't fire one of their guys and hire you right away!

by Jeff Sackmann on Jul 2, 2007 11:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Sorry Baseball Genius
Its nice that you compare our 1,3,4,5 pitchers with Bostons 1,2,3.  You forgot about Capuano and Gallardo, not to mention Villenueva.

You cannot make the judgement that Suppan cannot repeat what he did last year in the playoffs. You have no evidence for your idiotic statements.

As for Bostons pitching; Beckett's been awesome, but you never know when his little pinky will get a little blister on it.  Schilling's old and broken down. He could be good again, but he also could be awful.  As for Matsuzaka, overhype and overrated are two words that come to mind.  He's been good, but by no means a savior.

However, I am happy that you are now thinking of the brewers in the world series against boston.  Remember, your entire blog started with you saying the brewers were not going to make the world series.

We are still waiting for you to unveil why you hate the brewers and who your favorite team is.  I guess we'll have to wait for baseball tonight when you make your grand appearance.
