Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Game Thread #82 let's get back on track in the second half!

We all know we had a tough weekend with the Cubs. We all know we should have won the series, but no body can be perfect when it comes to saves. On the bright side we are still 6 and half games in front of the stinking Cubs.
Today we face the pirates. We have had bad luck in the past at PNC park. To break that bad luck we look towards Suppan. Maybe he can have a great start and we put up 10 runs on that bad pitching they have.
For the pirates, they send out right handing pitcher John Van Benschoten . He is 0-2 with a 4.30 ERA.
Go Brewers!

Wow, I never knew he was still involved in baseball.  Should be interesting to see what they say about the crew.

The Pirate's announcers just described the Brewers as "kind of a veteran team with some youngsters sprinkled in" and cited this as a reason they might exploit the running game against Van Ben#@$%&*.

veteran team, hmm
Maybe if the lineup included Estrada, Miller, Graffanino, Counsell, Jenkins, Mench and Gross all at the same time. How about:

CF Gross
3B Counsell
SS Hall
LF Jenkins
C  Estrada
RF Mench
1B Miller
2B Graffanino

yuck
let's hope we never see that sunday lineup

the funniest thing is...
while that lineup has an average age of 31.8 years - every single regular on the San Francisco Giants is 32 or older. So we've got some ways to go in being a veteran club.

Bay hitting 6th
I rip on Ned a lot.  But if I was a Pirate fan I would be trying to run tracy out of town.

Well...
Bay was doing terribly this past month.

ugh
suppan already getting shelled on the second pitch.  what is going on with this guy?

by Tick on Jul 2, 2007 6:13 PM CDT reply actions

To be fair
Jenkins did lose that in the sun.  He catches it otherwise.  That said, it was a hard line drive.

MIller
Easily my 2nd favorite catcher on the club.

by DaleCoop14 on Jul 2, 2007 6:30 PM CDT reply actions

well
we got one back, and this pitcher does not impress me at all. It will just be a matter of time before the flood gates open

by Bigdogg2002 on Jul 2, 2007 6:34 PM CDT reply actions

we will
have the top of the order against him.

by baseballdan1092 on Jul 2, 2007 6:35 PM CDT up reply actions

ok
second time around the order will be a charm.  no way this rookie is going to set down our lineup like that again.

Van Benschoten struggling to find the zone
I hope we don't do a lot of first pitch swinging the next few innings.

Good idea...
to work around Van Benschoten there.  You don't wanna let him beat you.

Villanueva vs. Turnbow
I know that Ned wanted to boost T-bow's confidence, and I'm no T-bow hater, but if there were any surprise pitcher on the Brewers' roster that deserved some consideration its Villanueva.  He has been ultra-clutch, ultra dependable, and his stats are great.

you can hear individual Brewers' fans cheering.  Not too often that happens for a road game.
