Weeks sent to AAA

Here's the JS link.

I think sending Weeks down is a good idea.  But my real question is how will this affect his Super-2 arbitration status?  I think I've read here that he would have been eligible this year.  Will this reduce his service time enough that he won't be eligible anymore?  If so, this could save the Brewers millions of dollars over the next few years.

Update [2007-8-1 12:59:42 by Jeff]: Joe Dillon was called up in his place.

Dessens :(
Not ELMER DESSENS....I'm going to have to turn off the tv & radio, cover my ears & eyes, and put myself in a happy place every time he comes in. Hopefully his call up is temporary until Linebrink comes back. I don't think sending weeks down was the answer. It might help, but I think we should have thrown him on the DL for a while and let him wrest his wrist. No batting or anything. Though, if he can get going down at AAA, maybe it will carry over the MLB finally. His timing just looks so off at the plate.
Watching Yovani pitch probably compares to driving a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Weeks for Dillon?
How can this possibly help the team?

by dixieflatline on Aug 1, 2007 8:59 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Well
He's only had 7 hits in July, and 2 in the past week (over 15 at-bats).

I like the move.  I like Rickie Weeks, but not so much that we should give up trying to get production from second base.  Dillon isn't a long-term answer, and he might not even be a short-term answer.  Still, I like the fact that we're trying.

I know its only AAA but...
Dillon has been doing quite well. He's batting like .317 with 20 homers and 70 rbi's.  So that's how he can help the brewers more than weeks.  Hopefully he'll tear up the minors as well and get his confidence up.  I remember when he first came up, id never seen someone hit the kind of rockets that he did.  Every ball was a missile.
Ned for Prez!! Seriously, he needs a new job.

I'm a fan
Weeks can use a confidence boost right about now and some AAA pitching may offer just that.  In the meantime, I'll take a chance with Dillon at least temporarily carrying over his impressive hot streak to the majors.

Agree
Weeks needs to get it going and this is one way to try to help him get his timing back.  It's not like they are going to bat Dillon clean up and expect him to carry the team.  By the middle of August hopefully we can call Weeks back up and he can help us win a pennant.

Service time
But my real question is how will this affect his Super-2 arbitration status?  I think I've read here that he would have been eligible this year.  Will this reduce his service time enough that he won't be eligible anymore?

He was going to end up with 2 years, 131 days of service time at the end of this season which would typically be right on the edge of Super Two eligibility. Now, since he's no longer on the major league roster, he will end up with less than that, so he almost definitely won't be eligible for arbitration after this year.

well..

I'm guessing his .212/5/19/43/10 stat line might save the brewers millions as it is.

true but
it could end up costing the Yomiuri Giants a few more yen in 2009!

Consistent playing time...
... for Weeks while he figures some things out, and "average" production from 2B from Counsellino.  Dillon will hopefully play no more than once a week, I'm beyond sick of Yost and his "keeping everyone fresh" schtick.

Dessens?  I just hope he brings luck with him ... he was on the roster when the Brewers were playing well.

Quite a lot of movement in the minor league system the past few week.  If only that #1 draft pick would start playing.

I think
the # 1 draft pick has played in the last two games

Nevermind
I see that LaPorta is actually playing now.  Who knew‽

My take
I'm sure Dessens is back just to be the long reliever, meaning he'll pitch about as much as he did when he was on the team the first time. I'd guess Dillon will pinch hit mostly and, at some point during his tenure, start a game at first base when there's a lefty on the mound.

Good Move
Props to Mustache for getting Linebrink on Bereavement list.  Dessens hopefully is recovered and ready to go.

I say keep Weeks down there until September call ups.  He needs everyday at bats against AAA pitchers.  Maybe that will remind him of his true potential.

I'm interested in Dillon.  Even if he bats .220 thats better than the .150ish avg Weeks had since last injury activation.

Dillon
Also has a .405 OBP and only 34 K's in 319AB.  A good eye which has yielded him 50 BB and approx. 50% of his hits are extra base hits.

Encouraging to say the least.  We'll see how he adjusts.

Side Note..
I read on jsonline that the brewers offer for gagne was gwynn, zach jackson, and a minor league prospect.  They said the offer would probably have been accepted if Gagne turned down the Red sox.

However, I just want to say that I hate Mike Timlin now.  The Red Sox have the best bullpen in the league and Timlin gets hurt. The red sox said they would not have gone after Gagne if Timlin was still pitching.  So we would have had Gagne for nothing substantial, but because of Mike Timlin we get Elmer Dessens.

weeks
OK didn't I read the doctor who did the operation said Structurely the wrist is fine. but there is pain and may always be pain? It depends on the player how they deal with the pain. I agree sending down weeks and getting some AB's would help. but what will it do for his confidence if he goes down there and doesn't hit either.

just a thought.

Well
If you're Doug Melvin, that would be good to know too.

Well...
If he's not going to hit, I'd rather he not hit in Nashville than in Milwaukee.
