Linebrink: What do we want?

Scott Linebrink's numbers since being dealt to Milwaukee:

7 IP
4 H
3 BB
1 ER
1 HR

Star-divide

So, those numbers have limited usage due to the extraordinarily small sample size.

But, Linebrink has been on the team for half a month already, and he's been great. I think it's substantial that he's done well in the first 1/4 of the time he was rented for by Doug.

If he posts zeros for the rest of the year, will you still be upset at the prospects given away?

What if he performs well in the playoffs?
What if he posts a sub 2 ERA and we don't make the playoffs?

How well does Linebrink have to perform for the deal to be considered a success for the Brewers?

He is doing better than Gagne.

I've always liked the trade

Do we make the playoffs?
If we do, then it's a good trade.  If not, it was a calculated gamble that didn't pay off.

(IMHO.)

Yep
That's precisely right.  As good as Scott Linebrink is, the bidding war for his services will be ridiculous this winter.  And he will inevitably prove a disappointment to his new team based on the expectations that go along with his multi-million dollar long-term deal.  The Cubs are notorious for overpaying for relief pitchers, and it usually winds up biting them in the ass.  Scott Eyre is most recent example.  But there are gobs more.  Unfortunately.

that
has nothing to do with the trade.

A win
No matter what happens for the rest of the season.  The bullpen needed help and if Linebrink is avaiable for prospects you have to go get him.

I'd agree
At the time, I think it was a good gamble.  Would you make the trade now, though?  I'm not sure I would.

FWIW, remember when the odds of our making the postseason was hovering around 80%?  Right now, it's at 51%.  (I'm not sure if they took today's drubbing into account.)

I guess
there are two ways of looking at that.  One would be that you would no longer make the trade, the other is that you make it now more than ever.  I think I would make it now more than ever.

You know what we could use
When Yost clobbers JJ to see if a salty veteran will step up, our "leaders" are Tony Graffanino, a utility infielder who is now hurt, and Estrada, who seems to have LOST respect the past few weeks, if that's possible.  No Bill Hall, no Prince Fielder.

When your "leader" is half of a backup platoon, you're in trouble.

Prince
was probably just afraid of accidentally killing the Nedder if he got riled up and made physical contact
