johnny estrada
I just heard on the cubs broadcast last night that the cubs announcers said Johnny Estrada had a 10% throw out percent. WOW didn't know he was that bad. Is he worth the money and the slow base running to keep around? I remember when they traded for Henry Blanco that they wanted a defensive cather. Wouldn't that be better than what we have now?

I'll go ahead and take that
now that we've gotten that out of the way, go ahead and compare him to a "defensive" catcher... say Brad Ausmus:
Estrada: .278/.298(really? Wow).404, 104 h, 32 xbh, 155 TB, 57 SB allowed, 11 CS
Ausmus: .231.312(again really?)/.313, 74 h, 19 xbh, 100 TB, 44 SB allowed, 15 CS
The usual caveats apply with pitchers holding runners and the like, but I don't think those extra 4 CS, and 13 not running against are worth sacrificing the 55 TB.

i agree
All in all, Melvin's moves have turned out very badly this year: Estrada, Suppan (Marquis has had a better year, is younger, and cost half as much), Dessens, Linebrink -- pretty awful. I'm still happy to have Melvin over the long haul, but you have to place blame where it belongs.

JUST ANOTHER
- Poor batting - Check
- Poor pitch calling - Check
- Poor defense - Check
And another thing...
It's not like you have him $42million. =/

JKs!
I'm all about Rottino getting some time in for 2008. Some major Major League time in. Like 110 starts worth of Major League time.
Michael Barrett anyone? Oh right, everyone's so concerned about "clubhouse cancers." He's at least an upgrade in offense, the same in defense, but probably too expensive on the open market.
Question:
Are the Brewers going to make a run at Schilling?
