Jeffress suspended 50 games

For drug abuse, but details were not made offiical nor do I feel they will be (possibly leaked?). Obviously this is not good news. Doug Melvin had this to say,
"The Milwaukee Brewers support Major League Baseball's drug program and its decision to suspend Jeremy Jeffress. The organization takes these matters very seriously and we are in the process of formulating a plan in hopes that Jeremy can redeem himself. Jeremy will be provided every opportunity to get his career back on track through the Brewers' Employee Assistance Program."

well that just sucks
can players get 50 games for marijuana or cocain? i noticed it mentioned those drugs in there, i thought 50 was just for roids and that type.

The suspensions for those violations
were increased when the steroid policy went into effect.  While it would have made perfect sense to me, I think MLB didn't want to answer questions about why suspensions for illicit/addictive substances were 1/5 as long as the suspensions for performance enhancing substances.  So all of the suspension periods were equalized when the new steroid rules came in.

It could have been worse.  They could have not caught it for another year, by which time his problem could have been a lot worse.

If there is anyone who does not need steroids...
Its the guy that effortlessly throws mid 90's.

Must be something else.

It is.
"Drugs of abuse" was the phrase used in the MLB press release on MLB.com

Under the MLB drug code, "Drugs of Abuse" include cocaine, LSD, THC (marijuana), opiates (heroine, morphine, et al), ecstacy, PCP, Ephedra and GHB (juice/liquid ecstacy, or G).  Steroids are listed under another section of the code.  So the use of the phrase "drugs of abuse" means it was not steroids.  Better for the integrity of the game, perhaps, but worse for Jeffress, in all likelihood, since virtually all of the substances listed under "drugs of abuse" are highly addictive and difficult to kick.

Ode to spring.

I like the snow as much as anybody who likes snow. I even don't dread shoveling. Still, I find myself anxious for spring.

Why?

I can't wait to play hookey from work or school and make it to a game at Miller Park. I want to have the money I save now go to a goal other than just tuition and bills. I want to sit behind home plate and watch Brauny hit a monstrous homer.

And that, my friends, is all I want for Christmas - spring.
