Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

random thoughts

I almost wrote this Tues. night, and it's probably a good thing I didn't.  The venom flowing through my veins at the time I'm sure would have resulted in a very profanity-laced, vile and offense post about everybody's favorite, Ned Yost.  That said, I am no more optimistic today as I was that night.  I could go on about the number of horrible decisions that were made, but you all saw them.  Tues. night was undoubtedly the worst.  Starting with the premature yanking of Jeff Suppan, there were about 10 decisions/non-decisions that were (or were not) made - and I absolutely disagreed with every single one of them.  My plea to Melvin is this - don't even wait until the end of the season, fire Ned now.  I know you're probably thinking that no matter whom you bring in (or more likely, who you promote in the interim), at this point in the season, they could not do a better job than Ned.  He knows the players better than anyone and all that noise, but the fact remains that this team is going absolutely nowhere with him at the helm.  I'm just glad I was able to attend it first hand and not witness it on the FSN or WGN feed.  I am absolutely sick of seeing him sit in the dugout all content while the crew blow one of their numerous leads on the season.  I've had enough of that smug look he has on his face while our team is falling apart.  Does he even care?  This was suppose to be the year we came together as a team, did things that haven't been done in Milwaukee since the early '80 and given the city it's first playoff race in recent memory.  We didn't even ask to make the playoffs; we just wanted to be in it at the end when things were decided.  You can sit there and say that we're only 2 1/2 back with a month to go and I'm over-reacting.  The fact is though, the way things have been going since mid-May, there's no reason to think we can suddenly turn this thing around.  Statistically, we are still in the hunt.  But, after blowing a 13 game lead on the division, forgive me if I can't be too excited about that.  I remember sitting in a bar with a friend on opening day and joking about how, no matter what, the Brewers this year could not be any more disappointing than the Badgers' basketball team and how glad we were to have that whole debacle behind us.  I was wrong.  By the time the initial disappointment of blowing our division lead had worn off, the wild card chase had come and gone without us being able to enjoy any of it.  Yes, there's still a month to go and plenty of time to come back and win the division; but having followed every pitch of the team since April 2, I can't even muster up the hope.  Our outlook for next year still looks bright - Gallardo will be another year older and I still have faith in Suppan.  All we need is another starter or two and a replacement for Cordero once he bolts (moving Braun to the OF wouldn't hurt either).  As for this season, I've already written it off.  Thanks, Ned - and thank god you don't coach college football.  Does anybody know a good Badgers blog?

13 game lead?
When did we have a 13 game lead that we blew?

I realize you mentioned it already, but all you want is a playoff race.  I really don't understand why this wouldn't be considered a playoff race.  If you were excited to watch last nights game before it started, then this is a playoff race in your mind.

if anyone told me
we would be 2.5 games out on september first in janurary, i would have been absolutely estactic, and i know all of you would as well. just keep that in mind, we get a couple lucky breaks here and there, and well be back in first. its not like the cubs are some godly team that dont choke in september. yanks were up 3-0 on boston, and boston came back, and the yankees were a good team, you cant give up on a season, especially when your this close.

on another note, it would be nice if that was made into nice paragraphs, thats pretty rough on the eyes.

on a third note, i hate ned yost, but when soup walked the first guy in the 7th, i was screaming, PULL HIM, PULL HIM. i mean seriously, how many times have our starters just completely lost it in the 7th. we all know if soup stayed in one more guy and gave up a HR you would be saying yost made a terrible move.

That's true
Although a think a more observant manager would have kept Soup in there because his pitch count was so low and Soup hadn't shown signs of tiring, I don't fault Yost for pulling him, for exactly the reason you said.

The thing, there is pretty much no one on this staff that I trust to have a decent outing at this point, except maybe for Sheets.  (And Cirillo, if he were still on the team.)

But now
we are 1.5 out entering September with Braun and Yovani up.  We ALL would have taken that before the season started.

HBP, not a walk in the 7th
Good points, though, especially about Yost pulling Suppan and being second-guessed either way.

Plus it was
a 1-2 count (If I remember).  It's not like he wasn't pretty close to getting that guy out.
If A-Rod hits A-Bombs, does Fielder hit F-Bombs? It's dumb I know....
