Game Thread Take two

Its gonna be Shane Youman vs. Dave Bush. 6:05 start time. Lets chatter up!!!
Today we made our september call-ups.
Recalled utility man Vinny Rottino and RHP Carlos Villanueva from Triple-A Nashville, and purchased the contracts of RHP Chris Spurling and LHP Mitch Stetter from Nashville; purchased the contract of OF Mel Stocker from Double-A Huntsville; transferred 3B Corey Koskie to the 60-day disabled list; added Charlie Green to the coaching staff.

Here is the lineup
Weeks
Hardy
Braun
Fielder
Hart
Mench
Estrada
Hall
Bush
I wonder when Hall starts seeing the ball where hes gonna bat. It probably will change EVERYDAY. Does anyone know where Jeff is?

estrada?
I think earlier in the year I remember complaining that Ned kept playing Miller (even though we were undefeated for a while when Miller played).  It seems like Yost waited to decide to stick with Estrada every day until it was clear he sucked.

Ill take a five run second
not to mention clutch hits from estrada and billy hall.

by Zel123 on Sep 1, 2007 6:56 PM CDT reply actions

yep
shows how much I know, saying we shouldn't be playing Estrada.

Rumor has it
it's 8-1 in the 4th

8 Runs.
None from homers.  Which is fitting a recent pattern that has surprisingly few of the Brewers runs coming from the long ball.  The sample size is tiny, but after that mid-season stretch where it seemed like we never scored without going yard, it's a welcome sign.  It's also nice to see they've added 3 runs since their 5 spot in the 2nd.

Mench walks
These are truly the Bizarro Brewers.

BTW no idea
where Jeff is.

Isn't he involved with another NL team?  Like the Mets?  Maybe he has a lot of baseball stuff with them to do.

Maybe he ran away to join the circus!

The circus, eh?
But the team was just in Chicago.

The 8th spot
Apparently it has magical properties for Brewers hitters.

I saw an injury delay on gameday... What happened?

Pearce
He's making his debut this year after going from not really a prospect to exciting prospect, not unlike a certain Brewers player.

I should say
I know Parra was a prospect, but he wasn't expected to do much after the injuries.

Matt Wise
Will they let him go for the save?

by drezdn on Sep 1, 2007 8:11 PM CDT reply actions

good question
I'd love to see Matty finish it.  These guys need some confidence-boosting.

by heybatterbatter on Sep 1, 2007 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions

That'd be nice
But at this rate he'll need about ninety pitches to do it. I'm guessing Aquino and/or Stetter will be thrown out there at some point.

So...
When does Myreon Romel Stocker take the field? And, perhaps more importantly, when does mlb.com give him a real number?

It'd be nice to be able to use a real number for this.

Game notes have my answer
I guess Stocker is #52. Vinny Rottino had to change his number from last year to #10 this year because some busher wanted #8.

I always feel bad for scorers
In September...it's tough to catch up to all the changes in lineups. Like the Pirates' getting a bunch of their scrubs in the games and pinch-runners galore and so on.

Meanwhile, yay Corey!

Understated move
But I like getting Fielder out of the game there for a pinch-runner. Might as well rest the workhorses when you can.

When the year started, did anyone ever think there would be back-to-back home runs by Hart & Mench?

More bizzaro Brewers
After running up the score early... They run it up some more late. Hart I think is now 1 each away from 20 HR/20 Steals.

by drezdn on Sep 1, 2007 8:24 PM CDT reply actions

Theory
Yost actually doesn't want Estrada anymore, but he wants to spare him the embarrassment of pulling him out of his role in a pennant race. Thus, while pinch-running and making defensive subs, etc., for everyone else, he's leaving Estrada on base in the hopes he aggravates his hamstring and takes care of the problem.

Son of Clung
Our erstwhile assistant women's basketball coach is on the mound and Myreon Stocker's on the field, too! Ditto Rottino! Ned's pulling out all the stops. :) Stocker's even going to get to hit -- normally I'd say that's insane but I guess it doesn't really matter tonight.

The gameday folks are having a heck of a time updating the lineups from inning-to-inning. I bet there's a few more Yost and Tracy haters now.

I wish I could see Stocker bat now because it had better not happen again...unless there's a ten-run lead like tonight.

End of the month
Prince at first, Stocker in right field; pop-up down the line out beyond first and both break for it. Prince never slows down, even when Stocker is railroaded underneath him.

Stocker is listed as a missing person with the Milwaukee Police Dept., as no trace of him could be found after his collision with Fielder.

If it wasn't for those visiting team TV cameras in left field and fans at home, Ned Yost would be a pretty chipper guy these days.

funny story
well not really but i was looking at minorleaguebaseball.com, a fellow blog, and someone had a question on the cubs (sandberg and his managing in particular). the person responded saying there's not many cub fans who go there and had that to say, with a caviout in the beginning. but i couldn't have my signature be more than <fill in number> words.

Former Brewers squaring off
Tonight in the heat of Arizona two Brewers cast-offs took the hill in a do-or-die battle between the Diamondbacks and Rockies. Dana Eveland went for the homers and Elmer Dessens tried to come in and conquer. The result?

A combined 4.0 IP, 11 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 105-58 pitches-strikes. Arizona won the wacky game 13-7.
