Attanasio on Yost; Jenkins Update

I, too, can mooch from Yahoo! Sports news:

Given that the Brewers haven't played meaningful games in September for years, Attanasio said he wondered why more people weren't asking him if he'll pick up the club option in Yost's contract for 2009.

"There's certainly no reason to think he won't be back next year," Attanasio said.

But Attanasio stopped short of guaranteeing that Yost would return next season, saying everything the team does is subject to review at the end of the season.

"That's not going to change, now that we have this playoff focus," Attanasio said.

Then, the mlb.com recap of today's game says this:

Meanwhile, Geoff Jenkins left the game in the fourth inning with a contusion on his left foot. X-rays were negative, and he is listed as day-to-day, the team said.

here's a scary thought
ned yost is retained after this year. then cordero leaves for F/A...
yost already f'ups the pen, what's he going to do without a good closer (assuming they don't sign one) ?

Mark Attanasio
disheartens me

You'd think
it's concern him that if we were in any other division in baseball, we wouldn't be included in any serious playoffs discussion.

maybe mark is really saying
"relax guys (fans), I'm going to fire him at the end of the year. So I have no clue why you're so upset, he'll be gone anyways."

Or so I hope

He is a goner
of course that is what he is saying....
I don't have enough fingers to count the reasons why Ned woud be fired.
Can there be a contest to give the news to Ned that is gonna be fired?
I would pay the airfare from AZ. Hell, I'd pay the airfare from Japan to hand him a pink slip.

Not exactly a surprise is it?
I'd like to see Yost given his pink slip, but I don't really expect it to happen.

Attanasio has to say this
He's not going to say that he's going to fire his manager when they are only 1 1/2 games out. That would send a terrible message to the players and the management.  This is what the owner should be saying and I don't fault him at all for doing so.

by Zel123 on Sep 4, 2007 9:41 AM CDT   0 recs

agreed
i mean seriously who is surprised by this, he pretty much has to say this. i dont read anything into this at all.

totally...
and, obviously mark is a smart guy; and didnt become a billionaire because he was afraid to make a tough decision.

by the way, i wouldnt be a bit surprised if he was an avid reader of this blog. i think he respects the opinions of the fans, and we certainly qualify (maybe over-qualify).

He's also
A fan...  And any fan knows that Yost is a dumbass...

So here's the conversation:
Mark's Fan Side:  We need to fire Yost. He sucks.
Mark's Business Side:  If we keep a bad manager, we'll never make the playoffs, and business won't be as good as it could be. We need to make more money.
Mark's Fan Side:  Yeah, what he said.

So both sides say yes. I hope that is what happens.

Hey Ned! Ever heard of small ball? Or are your balls too small?

by CATALYST on Sep 4, 2007 3:57 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hah
This was pretty funny.  It must be nice for schizophrenic Mark when both sides agree.

Be honest now...
How many Brewers fans crapped out a brick when they read Mark Attanasio's pronouncement on Ned Yost?!?

by cubbiebrewerfan on Sep 4, 2007 2:53 PM CDT   0 recs

yes
maybe we can get Dusty Baker to leave all of our young pitchers in for 150 pitches per start.

Ode to spring.

I like the snow as much as anybody who likes snow. I even don't dread shoveling. Still, I find myself anxious for spring.

Why?

I can't wait to play hookey from work or school and make it to a game at Miller Park. I want to have the money I save now go to a goal other than just tuition and bills. I want to sit behind home plate and watch Brauny hit a monstrous homer.

And that, my friends, is all I want for Christmas - spring.
