Good News

As of a few moments ago, we are in first place once again!!! Yeah Dodgers!!! There are still a few more weeks to go, but I am very optimistic that we can still take care of business.  I figured that this diary could be a great place for people to discuss what they believe will happen from here on out.

Personally, after watching the bats perk up and the pitching be respectable, I expect the brewers to win the division by two games over the cubs, just as I predicted at the beginning of the year.  I am unafraid of the cardinals, but I was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were.

I believe
We are the best team right now in the NL central.  Not just because I am a brewer fan either.  I expect them to win the division by a few games.

I agree
I've held off on saying the Brewers have "turned a corner," but I really think they finally have woken up and are about to stick the landing and hold first place.

It seemed like dropping below .500 wakes them up.

Plus, once the AAA Playoffs are done, there's some decent players we could bring up that will help us out whether we're being blown out, or just need a great pinch runner.

Also
Apparently ARam is going to be out for at least two weeks with a broken elbow.

yeah you were.
"broken elbow" and "miss two weeks" don't go together unless it's "he broke his elbow and will miss, way, way more than two weeks.  he might miss his career."

elbow is the scariest word in sports injuries.  think Tommy John.  also, check this link out.  every elbow injury is at least a 60-Day DL stint -- a lot of times it ends with Tommy John.

I'm not trying to make bad blood here.  it just made me think about how serious elbow injuries are.  it's kind of scary . . .

"elbow is the scariest word"
That's not quite true. "Shoulder" is easily the most dreaded word as far as baseball injuries.  I doubt "elbow" beats out "knee" in football.

I would guess neck/head is the scariest
It's not common, but any time you hear of a line drive off the head or someone landing awkwardly on their neck (I'm thinking more football) it's pretty worrying. The original point of elbow injuries taking longer than a couple weeks to heal is true, though.

You're right...
about the neck/head thing.  And I wasn't saying a broken elbow isn't a serious injury, just that ELBOW!!!!!11 isn't as alarming as it once was in baseball circles.

If the Brewers play the rest of the way they way
they've played over the last ten days (i.e., since that disaster of a series in San Francisco) they should win the division by a game or two.

One of the Brewers coaches said in late August that 17 wins in September would win the division.  I think 15 might do it.  They've got 4 so far, so a 13-10 record the rest of the way gets them in the playoffs.  That's very doable in my opinion, but they'll have to put together some wins on the road for the first time in a while (the series win against the DBacks two weeks ago notwithstanding).

I think so too
We've been playing a better brand of baseball over the last week and a half or so.  If we continue to do so, even allowing for the head-up-our-butt play that has come to characterize the team of late, I think we'll win the division, perhaps by 2 or 3 games.

Let's try to survive
this road trip first, then we can talk about how many games we were going to win the division by.  The Brewers have a rough little schedule for the rest of the season, and they better be playing better ball if they want to stay in this race.  The Reds & Pirates don't look like much, but some of our most frustrating roadies have come in those two cities (especially Pittsburgh).

On the other hand, i like hearing talk of the Crew winning the Central, so forget what I said.  They win the division by two games.

If A-Rod hits A-Bombs, does Fielder hit F-Bombs? It's dumb I know....

What's interesting
is that we finish with a long series at home, though against the Cardinals and Padres.  Should be quite a week.
