Tulo

The Rockies are reportedly offering Troy Tulowitzki a 6 year/ 30 million dollar contract extension. Does this seem comparable to what the Brewers can expect to offer to the likes of Ryan Braun when he is up for contract extension talks? When will Brauny be up for such talks? How long until we have to offer a new deal to Prince? Any ballpark guesses on what his contract could potentially look like?

Prince
Well, I don't think he's sticking around past the arbitration years unless the Brewers see some significant success.

As far as Braun, I'd imagine he'll draw a significantly higher number than that.  If he keeps his batting where it is and turns out to be a decent left-fielder, he's going to have to get at least 8-10m/yr, and believe me, someone will pay it.

I'm sure the crew will try to lock these guys in early, but I'm sure their agents know their potential and can already figure up a rough number of what they'll get once they're eligible for free agency.

Extensions
I would guess the team won't start working out a long-term extension with Braun until after 2009. Given that he won't even be arbitration-eligible until then at the earliest, there's no reason to sign him to a bigger deal now. To make it so that they're buying out at least one free agent year, the team would have to offer six years right now, and five after this season -- even though he's young and wouldn't cost as much as if he was signed off the market, you're still in trouble should he get hurt or something. Maybe I'm just too conservative financially when it comes to young guys, but I don't see the point of signing players to long-term deals before they're even arbitration-eligible.
