What is Rickie Weeks Contract Status

A quick question I am trying to figure out what is Rickie Weeks contract status?

Cots shows him with a contract that ran through 07

but he is not a free agent and not eligible for arbby

I have not heard one peep about needing to sign him so can someone please explain to me what is going on with his contract.

He's still pre-arbitration
He's just under the Super Two window for arbitration, so the team can arbitrarily renew his contract for next season at whatever it wants (though most teams try to work out a deal with the player). You don't hear much about it for the same reason you don't hear much about Corey Hart or Gabe Gross needing to be signed - they'll still be on the team come April regardless of if they sign a deal or need to be renewed. After next year, Weeks will be up for arbitration for the first time.

Thanks Jay
This has been bugging me for a while.
Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.

"Just Under"
Is he just under the Super two window based on service time?  I guess my real question is: If the time Rick-E4 Weeks spent in AAA last year did not count toward his Super 2 eligibility, would he have qualified for it had ne not been sent down?

I was just wondering if besides the obvious hitting struggles in '07 if the arbitration eligibility would've been a secondary reason for sending him down......

If A-Rod hits A-Bombs, does Fielder hit F-Bombs? It's dumb I know....

I don't think he spent enough time in AAA
You have to spend at least 20 days in the minors after being optioned, otherwise you keep accruing service time. Since he only spent something like ten days in Nashville, it didn't matter that he was sent down; he got a full year of service time for last season.

I doubt the team would be that concerned about a couple million dollars for which they probably already budgeted that they'd send Weeks down anyway. I'm sure his agent would've cried foul if that was the case. :)

Ode to spring.

I like the snow as much as anybody who likes snow. I even don't dread shoveling. Still, I find myself anxious for spring.

Why?

I can't wait to play hookey from work or school and make it to a game at Miller Park. I want to have the money I save now go to a goal other than just tuition and bills. I want to sit behind home plate and watch Brauny hit a monstrous homer.

And that, my friends, is all I want for Christmas - spring.
