Postseason Open Thread
This afternoon, we've got Game 2 of the NLCS, featuring Chad Billingsley and Brett Myers. I would like to see Myers shut down the Dodgers, if only so the Brewers look a little less pathetic in retrospect. That game starts at 3:35 CT.
Tonight, the ALCS opens with a matchup between Dice-K and James Shields. Game time is 7:37 CT.
Go Rays!

I will do the following:

if the Brewers sign Rafael Furcal and Pat Burrell.
Hear me out. After watching playoff baseball so far, these players have been dynamite. Furcal would allow us to shift Hardy over to third base and become a placeholder for Escobar. Burrell would allow a three man outfield platoon to join Cameron and Hart, and possibly Braun if the back flames up again.

We’ve got one quality SS at the major league level and another knocking at the door. It would be kind of crazy to spend free agent dollars on another one.
Burrell has long streaks where he Ks a lot. Not that great of defense either. And you’ve got Cameron on the team with his fairly expensive option. Just from a dollar standpoint, I’d say there is no chance, but strategically, I’d say it’d be pretty bad as well.

How are you going to platoon three right handed players?
And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Daisuke with another walk
I can’t help but wonder if Morineko’s mother is yelling at the TV.

I called her but she wasn’t answering. I’m sure she was if she was watching the game. Ah, Dice-BB.

Walk record?
Whats the major league record for walks without allowing a run? Dice-K has a shot here.

Mel Sottlemyre walked 11 in 8 1/3 shutout innings on May 20, 1971.

What's up with Myers and his bat this offseason?
Starting to make me think God’s got money on the Phillies.
I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

That was crazy. Even made Joe Torre shake his head.

WTF is this?
NLCS: Can someone tell Joe Torre that Chan Ho Park can pitch more than 2/3 of an inning at a time? Lo, someone has told me that Mr Park has pitched an entire game 10 times!
ALCS: Who’s got paying access to the B-R PI who can tell me who’s walked the most batters in a no-hitter?
Also, Jed Lowrie is Craig Counsell under an assumed name. Sac flies, what?

I can eat an entire large pizza with double toppings in one sitting.
Doesn’t make it a good idea. 2/3rds of an inning’s worth of Chan Ho Park is probably as much of Chan Ho Park as one can stand at any given point in time.

I dunno, Park was actually sort of good this year
and iirc he’s been really sick for the last few years? in any case, he had been doing some good long relief and spot starts for LA earlier in the season.
on the other hand, the guy really knows how to give up the HR.

I think he learned that trick
from his time here in Milwaukee
My only regret is that I have but one life to give to my blog

Grant Balfour beans Drew high and with a heater
two balls follow – it’ll be interesting to see how well he holds up here

Am I the only one (besides Orlando Cabrera, XD) who’s annoyed by Balfour? sigh Did he do that when he pitched for Milwaukee?

I honestly think he was Yosted and not given a fair shot. I mean the guy came back after 3 years not playing in the majors after TJ.
First appearance he’s shakey… gets 2 outs. Hits a guy (See guys nerves go up), then walks a guy then gives up a jack. Clean inning follows. We lose. We lose 5 – 2 to the DBacks. (Yes he blew it)
Next game, Balfour bails out Villy of a bad inning. He gives up a single, gives up walk and gets an out. Turnbow comes in and BLOWS UP. Lose 8 – 4 to the Giants. Villy lost us the game already.
Next game, it’s 12th inning. Balfours obviously a bit of a head case now, fans are on him hard and Yost sends him up. HE gets zero outs, buncha walks and a GW Single. 3 – 2 loss in 12th.
He was with the Major League club for 5 entire games. During this time, we had a lopsided win 10 – 1, and Wise went 3 innings. This would have been a PERFECT low leverage situation to let Balfour pitch and work out the nerves. But he wasn’t. I never thought Balfour was a bad pitcher, I think he just got BONED.
But it worked out, McClung has looked to be very good so far. So it’s a win/win for both.

Yeah, I had no doubt he got Yosted and that he was actually a heck of a lot better than his MLB statline for 2007 showed.
It’s that junk he does with talking to himself that annoys me. ;)
