From a Twins fan
Just wondering what a brewers fan would want for JJ Hardy. There has been a good amount fo talk about targeting him from a fan perpective. Deals from our end have ranged from Perkins and a lower level guy to people saying we don't have the guys to get him.
I always feel like fans think guys will get you more and cost you less to get then they do so it would be nice to have a prepective from the other side.
Thanks Ted.

Don't know the farm system to the West of us that well...
But I’d go for one healthy Francisco Liriano. Key word being, healthy. Otherwise given our bullpen woes it’d be interesting if you’d go Joe Nathan plus a farm hand for JJ and possible added prospects.
To you I’m no doubt asking far too much, but honestly it’s different thinking of the Twins as a trade partner. Haven’t divulged into their farm system well enough to gage any deep trades that could be achieved.
I like the post a lot though. What trade would you shoot for? Because I’m on your angle, just the opposite, not sure about the Twins’ farm depth. But at the same time, for a JJ, for a Prince, I think our current state is trying to look for a young potential front line starter on the opposite end of the deal.

…Liriano for JJ?
Just…

As I said
A healthy…Liriano.
But even I know there’s better pitchers to swing a deal for JJ if it so happens to go down.
Still, I’d rather make Hardy our Third Baseman. His bat can be clutch, his hot streaks are insane, and his arm is great for third.
Eh, crazy offseason ahead. Still, doubt the Twins have enough to get anyone huge off the team. Select teams match up with our needs into the next season, just a matter of if and when they happen.

The General Thinking
on Twins boards is that Liriano, Baker and Slowey are virtual untouchables and some people think it’s insane to even trade one of our fab 5. I have a soft spot for Blackburn so my First offer would be Perkins plus Muvley/Humber or Ben Revere. Perkins Really impressed me during the season when he was on hitting 92-93 from the left side with a change up better than advertised and really it was his second best pitch when he was coming up he all heard his curve was the second best pitch so that was a nice surprise. He was really running on empty the last 6-7 starts I think it could be because he didn’t put up many innings last year due to a shoulder injury.
I view Perkins as a guy that could Post an Era like 3.80 constantly.

When a bunch of players are untouchable, what’s left usually isn’t premium stuff. It sounds like you think Perkins is pretty good. From a Brewers perspective trading one of the best SSs in baseball for a pretty good pitcher doesn’t sound so good. It reminds me of the Orioles fans who wanted in insane return for Brian Roberts. In the end, they get to keep him. Will your season be much different with or without Perkins? Will your season be much different with or without Hardy?

You it's
funny I agree with you and I don’t think it’s realistic for the Twins to acquire hardy because we won’t give up enough. But I had someone in a Twins forum wondering what was so great about Hardy I realize his value but I’m not sure most Twins fan do.
That being said on our side I really don’t think we could resign hardy after his arb years which is 09 and 2010 I think. So it ends up being 5 years of Perkins for 2 of hardy and You guys work with a limited budget like we do, so you can see that value.

To me, Hardy is pretty close to untouchable. I don’t care how good Escobar is, JJ has proven himself as a great major leaguer. Weeks was a big time prospect, and now everyone is screaming to get rid of him. Move Escobar to 2B or JJ to 3B with that cannon of an arm, but don’t trade him. I guy who will give you great defenese, a pretty good average and 20+ homers a year is someone you keep around. Where is the downside to JJ? Yes, he is inconsistent, but when he’s hot, he’s basically on fire and can carry the whole team. But when he’s cold, he doesn’t kill the whole team like Hart did in September. The only trade I would make for JJ would be a good closer (like Joe Nathan as mentioned before) or a young Gallardo-like front line starter.

I agree
We can’t possibly trade away his hitting streaks.
When he’s good, he’s very good; when he’s bad, he’s Bill Hall.

a good day for Bill Hall
is when he is sitting on the bench. Or playing the Reds in April.
