ALCS Game 4 Open Thread

As we saw yesterday in the NLCS, Game 4's are always interesting.  Few teams have solid rotations that deep (present company, um, uh, included), so after three games of Dice-K's, Becketts, and Garzas, we get a matchup of Tim Wakefield and Andy Sonnanstine.

Interestingly though, it could turn out to be a pitcher's duel.  Sonnastine blanked the Sox both times he faced them in September, and you never know how good Wakefield can be on any given day.

Game time is 7:07 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Rays!

As a proud Australian!

I am not sure who I want my man Balfour to plunk today… J.D. Drew, perhaps?

He’s not a free agent and someone Melvin has always wanted to get is he?

by ol Pete on Oct 14, 2008 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

??

I like him because he makes you feel like anyone could be a major leaguer…
I dislike him because he plays for “my cubs.” – I live in a place where 1 in 20 people don’t look at you strangely for being a baseball fan. The 1 in 20 who do like baseball like it because of fever pitch.

I was just being sarcastic about Doug Melvin – it wasn’t directed at you. Personally I am not fond of soft tossers and he seems to be the ultimate.

you never want to say a team is done...

But the Sox are done. When your team’s epic bats are held by Mark Kotsay and Kevin Cash…and the rest of ‘em can’t hit ol’ League Average Sonnanstine…they’re toast.

Also, Wakey sucks. He’s got a perpetual rolling option on his contract so if the Sox don’t want him that is the only way he’d become a free agent. I think he’d rather retire first. Do you really want to see what Kendall would do with a knuckleballer anyway?! (d’oh, R.A. Dickey was in the Brewers org—did Rottino catch him?)

And they’ve got Dice-BB going up against James Shields in Game 5. I don’t think they’re getting another 7-inning nono out of Matsuzaka.

Forgetting someone?

The portly knuckleballer himself!

And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Good to the Wakefield contract part.

I'm fairly confident Kendall could catch a knuckleballer with ease

Watching Kendall try and hit a knuckleballer, on the other hand, is painful to imagine.

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Heres a question:

Boston Red Sox: AL Champions with Manny Ramirez?

Eric Gagne DL time: May 23-June 29 Brewers record in that span: 20-9

I don’t think so. Manny is great, but Bay has been pretty good.

How good has he been in the playoffs?

I haven’t been paying a ton of attention.

Really good, of course Manny has been crazy.

Tampa are very very good though.

9,9 and at least 13 runs in their wins.. another bat wouldn’t save the redsox.

by Braun Holio on Oct 14, 2008 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, that’s really the story. Manny is great, but the Sox are getting whooped.

by ol Pete on Oct 14, 2008 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Indeed.

He might make a difference in the intangibles if he were playing as hard as he is for the Red Sox, giving the team energy and all, but I don’t think it would quite cover the distance.

Rotoworld is confused again

they think Prince Fielder is interviewing for the managerial job, or maybe that he is doing the interviewing.

And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Big veggie post game spreads then?

Rays on a roll

I’d like to see the Dodgers make a series of it now. If they can get past Hamels, it gets a lot more possible.
