Fall/Winter League Update for 10/22/2008
In Arizona: According to his blog, Taylor Green was hit in the face by a pitch yesterday and broke his nose. No word on how long he'll be out but hopefully that's the extent of the damage.
In the game, Jeremy Jeffress was shelled, giving up six runs on three hits and two walks in just two thirds of an inning. His offense picked him up, though: Green was 1-for-2 in the game with a run and an RBI before he had to leave and Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-6 with his first AFL HR. Omar Aguilar pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to finish the game and the Javelinas won a wild one, 18-11.
The Javelinas travel to Phoenix today at 2:35.
In Hawai'i: Caleb Gindl and Logan Schafer each went 1-for-3 with a walk as the CaneFires lost to Oahu, 8-5.
The CaneFires play at Waikiki again at 8 tonight.
In Mexico: Erasmo Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning with one hit and a strikeout for his second hold as Guasave defeated Mexicali, 3-2.
In Venezuela: I think the VWL was off Monday, but I do have some stats from Tuesday's games:
- Alcides Escobar went 1-for-4 and drove in a run for Lara.
- Also for Lara, Hernan Iribarren went 2-for-5 with a triple. He's hitting .316/.458/.526 in Venezuela.
- On the flip side, Brendan Katin is now hitless in his last 5 games for Zulia (0-for-18). Last night he went 0-for-4 with 3 K's.
In the Dominican Republic: Juan Sandoval made his second appearance for Licey yesterday, and threw a perfect inning.

Lara Cardenales and Hernan and Alcides
Here is a blog report in Spanish of the team and mentioning them specifically. I read the google translation and it only crudely provides information. I think Alcides made an exceptional fielding play in the hole, there was a reference to peppers Irribarren and I think its talking about his hot bat but maybe that’s a nickname. Another mention of JJ and the Brewers and this time rather than referring to him as “lord and master” of the position it sounds like the author expects Escobar to be SS sometime next year. Its all a guess. I’d be interested if a Spanish speaker read the post.
