Replacing Ned Yost: Down to Three?

The Blog That Shall Not Be Named says we may be down to three candidates to coach the Brewers next season:

Melvin confirmed he has interviewed former Oakland manager Ken Macha and former New York Mets manager Willie Randolph, and will interview former Arizona manager Bob Brenly tomorrow.

And Melvin said he might stop right there.

"I think they are three very strong candidates," said Melvin.

Really?  WIllie Randolph is a strong candidate?  Maybe he'll give us the inside track to re-signing Guillermo Mota.

stop the proverbial presses

despite disinformation by the Brewers the winner will be Robin Yount says Al over at troll central AKA the evil BCB

I like the evil BCB Al

more than most around here, I’d imagine.

But I wouldn’t call him an informed source for Brewer news.

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

He seems informed about news. Its just that his speculation is funny.

He probably hasn't noticed that:

1) Mevlin just canned one of Yount’s best friends.
2) Yount doesn’t appear to want or need to hold a job for more than a few months at a time at this point.
3) That Bobby V clearly skunks Yount in the ridiculous-mustache-story-relevant-to-baseball-history department. I think we all know how important that would be to Melvin.

I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

Isn't it time for The Rock?

Don’t all of our hitters need to learn to take it the other way?

If not as manager

His career batting line seems to make him a good hitting coach candidate.

WTF?

Why would anyone vote for Macha or Brenly?

Frank Kremblas for Crew Manager.

This made me feel better about Brenly:

"People remember the World Series, and I think there’s a fairly strong consensus that AZ bested the Yankees more in spite of Brenly’s strategies there, than because of them ( ie misusing Kim, Schilling, etc). Apart from that, a more general consensus on Brenly is tougher.

When he took over for Showalter, Bob famously threw Buck’s hefty rulebook in the trash and told players to "Play hard and be on time. That’s it." Buck saw players more as skillsets or assets with which he could maximize output, primarily thru playing time and strategy, whereas Bob saw them more as people who needed to be individually managed and maximized. Bob was more of a cheerleader. Let Williams, Gonzo and Grace set the clubhouse tone, stroke Randy and Curt, and advocate for young pitchers like Kim, Prinz and Brohawn. Brenly didnt visit the mound as often as Showalter. He would give a kid the ball, say something demonstrative, and let him sink or swim. It bit him in Yankee Stadium, but I thought this approach with young pitchers during the season was a key to the team’s growth and ultimate success.

He had a rocky relationship with Ruby Durazo, who never seemed to play as often as his talent warranted. Also, his heavy usage of BK Kim and Oscar Villareal (2003) may have contributed to their subsequent declines.

I’m not convinced Bob is a particularly gifted manager, but he’s terrific with people and I suspect would be a managerial step up from anyone the Brewers have had recently :-)"

the bench coach for the Nationals has been filled

I believe that was a job that Randolph was rumored to be a candidate for. Could be a coincidence or maybe he’s been hired… I hope not.
