I wonder if the rise is related to his injury
If swinging was a bit uncomfortable, maybe he was laying off some pitches he normally would’ve flailed at.

let’s sabotage his shoulder, then, so he only uses his big swings when it’s most appropriate.
or i guess we could just hope that he makes the connection between laying off pitches and seeing more pitches to hit — a principal that players are not always conscious of (or friendly towards, for that matter) even if they abide by it.

It was just awesome to see him do what he did in the last two weeks of the season. He was obviously in pain, and he adapted and found a way to get on base. Then we he knew he had to unleash and drive one, he did.
Still not my favorite fangraph graph, though:
