Counsell's Option Declined
He still might be brought back at a cheaper price. It sure is good they waived Joe Dillon (picked up by Oakland) a couple days ago to make room for Casey McGehee. Wouldn't want too many infielders clogging up the roster.

this isn't a treat, it's some sort of trick
But I LIKE Counsell! Even though he is toast! (Well, they seem to want him, just for something a bit less than $3.2 million.)
Joe Dillon got picked up by Oakland? That’s good for him. I think.
May sound crazy but...
I am a Counsell fan, too. Seems like the guy would run the count full every time, then foul off two or three more pitches, kind of like Brady Clark used to do. Oh man, did I just compliment someone by comparing him to Brady Clark?
you did
and maybe it’s more my recent memory than the larger sample presented, yeah I think that’s it, but I remember during the playoff run and subsequent playoff games where Counsell worked the count and did all the things that gritty persons do to be gritty.
I wouldn’t mind him back for that reason and because he’s a plus defensively…just so long as he doesn’t get very many at bats (Long Live Branyan!)
I untuck my shirt!
Now who is going to pinch hit with the bases loaded?
I’m really curious to see how our bench is going to look next year if he doesn’t come back.

Overcomplicated roster question
Most likely only TheJay will know for sure:
Even if the Brewers decline Craig Counsell’s option, does he remain on the roster until he files for free agency? That would explain why Dillon had to be DFA’d to make room for McGehee.
I don't specifically articulate my motives, because that wouldn't travel as well as a boo does.
You're absolutely right
Only TheJay knows these things.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Probably
The Brewers.com article about the option being declined suggests he does: “For now, the Brewers paid a $400,000 buyout, and Counsell joined the team’s list of players eligible for free agency. No additional Brewers formally filed on Friday after five players did so Thursday.”
So I guess that does explain why Dillon was DFA’d.

I think it was the both of them, except Miller was all “I’ll only play for a team near Wisconsin”—the Twins already had Mike Redmond, so there went that one—and Counsell did want to return to Wisconsin, but he hasn’t completely given up on his career yet.
For all we grouse about Counsell, he’s still a heck of a lot better than a lot of the jokers teams keep pretending are utility infielders.
