We Have a NEW 3rd Base Coach!

I know right, exciting!  We have a new hand who will rotate his arm around and round and two new hands to hold up that all important stop sign.  He's also the guy who will tell those hitters down there at the plate what to do!

If the suspense it's killing you it's probably the off-season so without further ado our new 3rd base coach: Brad Fischer

He's been with the A's for years and most recently was their bullpen coach and before that 1st base caoch. As far as I can tell he never was a 3rd base coach.

EDIT: Promoted to front page. Thanks Michael! KL

Let's Go Fish

Those were some fun times in Mad-town.

Romano, Kiefer, Robles, Canseco, etc.

The sister of someone I went to HS with married Greg Robles. After playing in Madison, he was moved to San Jose at some point.

We had great fun calling her Rene Robles (pronounced Ro-blay) from San Jose.

played one year of rookie ball

and two years later he was managing the organizations A ball team. That seems remarkable to me. Charlie from over at bucsdugout talked about him when the Pirates made him manager of their rookie league team.

I also came across this page which had some interesting stats and a nice presentation of his minor league career.

Oh, and he was a catcher so that requirement for being a good coach is satisfied. I was worried about Macha, but he was an emergency catcher IIRC. Whew is all I have to say.

(just kidding)

Macha

He was behind the plate for an inning during his debut.

I mentioned this in the Mug comments

But not sure if anyone is still lurking there. I’m curious if we have to decide on Torres option in the next day or so. I would assume it would be under the same contract language as Cameron’s, or am I missing something?

Congrats 08 Crew on a fine Wild Card achievement! What do you say we keep the next postseason drought to something a little shorter than a quarter of a Century.

I wouldn't worry about it.

If Torres’ option isn’t picked up….well….that just won’t happen. It’s going to be picked up.

Maybe Melvin just forgot to tell us he picked up the option and will remember in the spring.

They have a few more days

I think options are—
1. picked up
2. Salomon retires

And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Is she hot?

Seriously, these questions need to be asked.

If the answer is yes

the follow-up question is, will she be at the games?

So, wait, I am really confused...

What position did he play in 1982? Or was he still in the Brewers minors at that point?
