Sheets, Sabathia and Shouse offered arbitration
I like the moves. Sheets may be considered "risky", but I think it is a deal if he takes arby and stays with the Brewers... but I am willing to bet someone will offer him more elsewhere. Sabathia move is meaningless but provides the chance to restock in the draft.
The real news is Shouse, who would be great to have back next year, perhaps more than the Brewers would like to pay, but I like the lefty.

Good
If Shouse wants a 2-year deal elsewhere, he can have it and we get a sandwich without losing much production, if any. If he decides to accept, we get a good pitcher at a reasonable price. I hope Sheets accepts.
And neck size to baby eating ratio.
I like this, too.
I didn’t see any reason NOT to offer arbitration to any of these guys.
Eric Gagne DL time: May 23-June 29 Brewers record in that span: 20-9
Chicago radio...
Is reporting that the Cubs are not offering Wood arbitration.
Pretty surprising IMO. I still don’t think the Brewers will go after him, but not having to give up a draft picks to get him may lead to the possibility that they make some sort of offer.
Makes him more interesting, anyway
I’d take him on a 1 year deal, or 2 with incentives. I think some team will give him 3 and $24, though.
And neck size to baby eating ratio.
That cry of anguish you hear?
That’s Carlos Marmol realizing he has to pitch two innings five out of six days for 5 months.

Say
Maybe CC will accept arbitration…
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Maybe he takes arby, hoping for a better economy next year at this time
Thus increasing his overall contract… plus a one yaer deal + 6 year deal next year + another 3-4 year deal at 35, might net him more than a 6 year deal now and another deal 4-5 year deal when he is 34.
Well we can hope
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
I thought for sure
that we would get a joke post with someone claiming that CC accepted arbitration. I guess there is still time…
September 15: Not a bad little Monday
I think we need rj to take an official oath
that we won’t be seeing a “Sabathia re-signs, 4 years, 80 million”-type posts. Stuff like a Rolen trade is fair game, but a large-scale joke could cause some major cardiovascular issues.
And neck size to baby eating ratio.
I promise
no fake Sabathia signing posts.
(boy, it’s hard to type with your fingers crossed.)

Yeah
I can see the Craig Counsell re-signing being misrepresented already.

I have the occasional fleeting delusion that...
… CC will accept arbitration, ask for 30 million and get it, then hit the market next season with Boras saying the equivalent of “don’t even bother calling with that 6 year, 140million bs.”

That would be awesome.
I mean, it would kind of suck, but still, that would be awesome.

Around the MLB
The Yankees declined to offer arbitration to any of their candidates. Before someone asks, Yes, this means Chad Moeller is now a free agent.
C. Magruder scored, R. Weeks to second on balk

If he accepts, can we sign him and trade him? Or, is he subject to the rule that FA can’t be traded until 5 months after they’re signed or whatever that rule is?
thanks jihad
That’s what I thought, which is why I felt there was no risk in offering. I think we could deal him fairly easily on a 1-yr deal if he doesn’t find the 2-yr deal he’s looking for.
FWIW
The rule is that teams can’t trade newly signed free agents until after the next June 15. Fairly straightforward, but then they go and muck things up by saying teams can trade those guys prior to that date if it’s for other players and/or at most $50,000 cash and they have the player’s written consent.

Are the Dbacks afraid Dunn will accept? That seems really surprising to me. Thinking about the Cubs, that does as well. Wood is looking for a multi-year deal, so it seems like there would be little chance he would accept, but maybe that’s too much of a risk. Could the Chicago Yankees actually be concerned about payroll?
But Wood publicly said he would take less money to stay in Chicago.
Given his numbers last year and that outlook, I think the Cubs thought he might accept and then win his hearing.

My gut feeling is Shouse will accept
Or should I not talk about gut feelings around here :)
I untuck my shirt!
It'll be interesting to see.
This is probably Shouse’s one and only shot at getting a multi-year deal. Not that the money is going to be a huge difference, but for him (unlike the other two guys in the headline) the difference between, say $2M/1yr and a shot at $3.5 or $4M/2 yrs actually means something.
Also, cheese.

someone is going to sign adam dunn for a nickel. i say we sign him to play 3B — how much worse could he be than braun or gamel? ;-)
Or...
move Corey Hart back to third base…
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
If he struck out less...
… we could have him field the hot corner with his bat. He could just smack the ball in the general direction of 1st base and hope someone else picks it up and throws the guy out. Even with all the whiffs that might be better than giving him a glove.

I like it
Kind of combining baseball with hockey. Which is, as we know, a hybrid Canadian/American sport, and gives our team an advantage.
Can you imagine Dunn and Cameron in the same lineup? People who didn’t get the difference between BA and OBP before would REALLY scratch their heads.

The 80% of NHL players who aren't American just glared at you
