The Mariners (led by our ex-draft wiz) just signed Russell Branyan to a one-year deal.

Does this mean we're committing to a Gamel/Hall platoon at third?

EDIT - Deal is for one year, worth $1.4 million with an additional $500k in incentives available.

a gamel/hall platoon

doesn’t make as much sense as a hall/branyan one would’ve. Gamel has fared extremely well against lefties, even better than against righties if I recall correctly. People say this is because of his strong ability to stay on the pitch and drive it the other way.

Well, Gamel will be up by July.

Doug Melvin's response:

“Wait, we can sign guys right now? I thought everyone agreed to wait to see where CC signed before they offered deals to anyone else.”

I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

no platoon.

give Gamel the opp to win the job in spring. if he doesn’t do well, invent some sort of mirror device to attach to Bill Hall’s batting helmet that allows him to see RHP the way he sees LHP. even with R&D costs, we might save money over Branyan’s $1.4mil.

"Nothing is working right now with a lot of the guys. We're trying to see pitches and see what we can do. ... I'm not going to sit there and walk, though. I'll eventually find it, and hopefully we'll still be in it." -Corey Hart

I imagine...

This will be like Favre going to the Jets.

Next year you’ll see a lot of Branyan M’s jersey’s in the crowd and on the street in Milwaukee.

Good luck to Russell

Neat story going from signing with the Brewers because Nashville was the nearest AAA team to his house to signing a deal for $1.4 million the next year.
