Shocking
That an 18 year old kid without a shred of professional experience could get ranked #5.
Ah well.

He played at other high levels, such as the olympics.

I voted for Lawrie......twice.
In my opinion, the word “prospect” cancels out the lack of experience caveat. We’re talking about flat out potential for most of these guys. With the end of last season exception of Gamel & Escobar, there’s probably not too many folks (myself included) who have seen a ton of AB’s from any of these guys. I based my Jeffress vote on potential as well, and I am trying to read as much as I can on each of these guys before i vote.
True enough, Lawrie is raw. That didn’t stop him from getting snagged in the middle of the 1st round last year though. Everything I’ve read about him says his bat is fantastic, and in terms of “prospects” I have his age working for him rather than against him. The sky’s the limit for an 18 year old 1st rounder, in contrast to prospects who are more MLB ready but also 5-6 years older. I think those guys have a body of work that should either increase or decrease their respective values.
Just my 2 cents…..I’m just defending my vote since I’ve seen a lot of people wondering how Lawrie made the list. I’m not implying he’s the 5th player away from playing in the bigs, I’m thinking more along the lines of expecting bigger things from him when/if he does get there down the road. I understand your point, as well as others Charlie, so don’t think I’m trying to start a “prospect war”. I just wanted to defend my choice.

"Lack of experience" isn't a problem for me.
“Lack of proven success at the position that defines your value” is.
Lucroy has shown signs of being a solid defensive catcher, and he can also hit some.
We have reason to believe Lawrie will hit, but at this point it’s unclear at best whether he’ll be able to handle the defensive responsibility of being a full time catcher.
As such, I’ve also voted Lucroy three times in a row, because I feel like he’s the one of the three catchers that’s most likely to actually be a big league catcher.
I don't specifically articulate my motives, because that wouldn't travel as well as a boo does.

I'm with you...sort of
Its really a case of only having statistics to base any of my votes on. I’ve never seen any of these prospects play (except for Gamel (I think…but I’d had some beers!) in the near perfect game Chris Young threw against the Brewers last year), so really all I’ve got to go off of is what’s out there. Lawrie looks like a good kid, but the strength of the competition hasn’t been there, and I’d look for sustained success.
In any case, I hear you. My second time in a row voting for Lucroy. All of my other votes have gone to whomever won.

Lucroy
I’ve voted for him three times in a row now…he better win sooner or later.
On the plus side, though, nice to think that we have three legit (I hope) catching prospects.

I'm in the same boat
In my world my 5th spot vote is going to Taylor Green.
