Winter League Update for 12/31/2008
In Venezuela:
- Anderson de la Rosa made his VWL debut yesterday, going 0-for-2 for Lara.
- Hernan Iribarren went 2-for-3 but did not detonate any indisputables. He went 12-for-34 after coming back from injury, and finished the season hitting .306/.388/.451.
- Brendan Katin went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. He closed out the season with one walk and 16 strikeouts in his final nine games on his way to a .257/.335/.550 batting line.
- Freddy Parejo went 1-for-3 with a walk for Lara. Lara must have cleared out the bench yesterday, as Parejo only had one PA on the season before yesterday.
- Luis Pena pitched a scoreless inning for La Guaira, giving up a walk and nothing else. He finished VWL play with 6.2 innings accumulated over three months and a 8.10 ERA.
In Puerto Rico:
- Carlos Corporan went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
- Richie Gardner retired the only batter he faced Tuesday.
- Efrain Nieves pitched a scoreless inning with a hit, a walk and a strikeout. He's allowed three earned runs in 11.1 innings despite allowing 18 baserunners.

Did McGehee, Nelson, and whoever else ever go back to their teams?
I remember trying to look up why they left but don’t recall seeing their name in these updates since then.

None have returned.
Tony Gwynn also left his team around Thanksgiving, and hasn’t come back.
I don't specifically articulate my motives, because that wouldn't travel as well as a boo does.

The Hurricane
Can one assume that his ceiling as a major league player is a sub?
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
