Ok, first and foremost, it's come to my attention that this recurring diary needs a catchy title. Two things to note before I open it up for debate:
A) "Morning Brew" has already been suggested and added to the field of nominees.
B) I'm already using "The Snowed View" somewhere else, so it's not available.
Aside from that, the gates are open. Got an idea for a name for these reads? Post it in the comments. I'll pick some out and we'll vote on a winner tomorrow.
Now, reads.
Crawfish Boxes notes that the Astros position players report to spring training tomorrow. Does it bother anyone else that the Brewers are consistently one of the last teams to report? Does anyone worry about the advantage other teams might get by getting 2-3 extra days?
Related to that, buried at the bottom of Adam McCalvy's notes at the Brewers site, I caught this tidbit:
Position players are not required to report until Friday. Veteran infielder Craig Counsell and Minor League infielders Ozzie Chavez and Alcides Escobar have yet to arrive. The team is waiting for paperwork from the U.S. government for Chavez and Escobar.
Since Counsell is from Wisconsin, I'm guessing paperwork isn't the problem for him. Does anyone else find it strange that the Brewer constantly credited for being "scrappy" and "a winner" and all that meaningless crap is going to be one of the last Brewers to show up?
DRaysBay notes that the 2008 Rays will have the motto "We Are One Team." Maybe the 2008 Brewers can have one like "We Are Two Pitching Staffs."
Are you ridiculously fat? Do you like making fun of fat people? If you are, Bugs and Cranks and the Yahoo Sports MLB Blog want to let you know the Marlins may have a job for you.
If being a manatee isn't your thing, perhaps you'd like to try out to be a racing president instead.
Finally, Baseball Analysts has a great post on non-roster invitees and the excitement they bring to spring training.
Enjoy. And don't forget to name this diary in the comments!
