Spring Training Tips
Depending on how things lay-out, my friends and I are toying with the idea of driving down to Spring Training in Arizona the third week in March. I would appreciate if anyone could share with us any pointers, ideas, tips, or any other useful information we could use for the drive down and for our time in AZ. Anything goes, it can be local establishments you recommend to sights that should be seen, just about anything that come to mind. We plan on attending a couple games, at least one Brewer Game and one Cubs game (gotta keep the roommate happy) so feel free to recommend other teams events and set-ups that you recommend experiencing. Thanks for your input.

Starting point
Before games start later this month, workouts typically begin at 10 a.m. MT and last until 2 or 3 p.m. The early work is often done on back fields off limits to fans, but the afternoons often include sessions on a set of diamonds that are open to the public. When the Brewers work out in that area, you literally can stand 10 feet away from a Sheets bullpen session and can sit behind the screen for batting practice. Players cross a parking lot to get to those fields, and often sign autographs along the way.
When games start, more of the work is done on the back fields or in the main stadium, but there are still morning workouts and chances for autographs when players walk down the right-field line to the dugout. And even when the Brewers play a road game, unless it's down in Tucson against the D-backs, Rockies or White Sox, they work out at Maryvale Baseball Park in the morning and then bus over close to game time.
Maryvale is OK but
Scottsdale's the nicest place in the area. Maryvale is a dump and its a long trek to get out there. I would recommend taking the interstate as much as possible, because there is a lot of starting and stopping throughout the city.
A good restaurant is the Tortilla Factory in Scottsdale. Foods pretty good but the margarita's are really the attraction.

If I only had the means
I know
Hey, it works in the commercials.

im hopefully heading down there this weekend for the third consecutive year; and im very excited. i will post a full report, eventually; i havent had good luck with the internet down there.
maryvale is very average; and i wouldnt recommend staying there unless you are trying to save money. especially if your roommate is a cubs fan; i would stay in scottsdale or near the cubs complex.

the thrift stores all over the area are pretty amazing. i have found some sweet t-shirts.
dont forget to bring a few baseballs, and a blue ballpoint pen for glendon rush to sign them with.
i also recommend bringing a cooler to toss beer in and plenty of sunscreen!
have fun!
the glendon rusch
Ahhhh...Glendon Rusch...
Here it is
Rusch, who was the losing pitcher on Friday night, came through in surprising fashion as the Brewers ran out of hitters on the bench.
With the bases loaded and one out in the 14th, Rusch pinch-hit for reliever John Foster. A career .138 hitter, Rusch bunted an 0-1 pitch from Scott Linebrink (0-1).
The ball looped over the head of second baseman Jeff Kent and landed for a game-winning single.
Foster (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory.
