Journal-Sentinel 2008 Predictions

Well, nine of the sports columnists for the Journal-Sentinel made their predictions for the 2008 season.  I have to say, there's some like, but not a whole lot of love, for the home team.  The highlights:

  • Seven of the nine say the Brewers will win the division, with Garry D. Howard and Bob Wolfley picking the Cubs.  (Neither of them has the Brewers winning the wild card; Howard expects the Brewers to fall back to .500.)
  • Of the seven calling for a NL Central crown, most have them falling flat on their faces.  Only Dave Boehler and Don Walker think the Brewers will get past the first round of the playoffs.
  • Only Boehler thinks the Brewers will win the pennant before falling to, of all teams, the Tigers.
  • Five of the nine are calling for the Tigers to win the World Series.
  • With the exception of Howard, everyone is calling for the Brewers to win between 86 and 89 games, with Boehler calling for a 90-win season.
  • Which begs the question --- what's your guess for the Brewers this year?

    Poll
How many games will the Brewers win this season?
    • Fewer than 81
    • 81-85
    • 86-89
    • 90-95
    • More than 95

    local picks

always favor the local team and usually make the team appear better than it is. i'm a long-time fan - i even was at the first home game ever - a 12-0 trouncing - and would love to see the crew make the playoffs. but i have respect for the national experts and have to say the cubs are the favorites.

but i'm hoping for a half dozen GREAT years by our boys and/or 3 or 4 injuries/SUBPAR seasons for important chicagoans.then it will be like "82 again.

    my pick

I think the team will be improved over last year, hence I picked the 86-89 win mark. Hopefully that will be enough to get into the playoffs. While the National League is balanced, I still feel like a team can get into the postseason with said number of wins.
