I thought it would be fun to have an opening night thread, especially with the new features here and live comment updating.

So, with that being said, let's play ball!

just in time

Got checked into my hotel and fired up my computer in time for the lame world series predictions.

Unfortunately, another 10 minutes and I would have avoided this politically-themed intro.

I can't wait for the first pitch

You know, if Bush's throw hits the catcher's glove on the fly, it means the surge is working.

Elijah Dukes

I was listening to XM MLB home plate on the drive down here, and the hosts interviewed Elijah Dukes, and asked him what he thought of the atmosphere. He said it was exciting, and that he was excited to meet the president for the first time, and that maybe Bush would give him a gas card.

I am an Elijah Dukes fan.

Off-topic fun fact about the Brewers

12% of the opening day roster has retired and come out of retirement (Kapler, Dillon, Torres). Between that and the number of first-round picks on the roster, the team's pretty unusual.

Not if it rolls fair before passing first or third base

It's only foul if it's touched in foul territory or passes first or third base in foul territory (or stops in foul territory). Otherwise if it rolls back into fair territory it's a fair ball. If the ball lands in foul territory beyond the bases, then it's a foul ball no matter what.

by roguejim on Mar 30, 2008 9:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is kind of strange

Think of it as the reverse of a ball landing in fair territory on the infield and rolling foul before reaching first or third base (or being touched in fair territory). In that case the ball is ruled foul.

Sports Science

Not sure if any of you guys have ever seen the show "Sports Science" on FSN, but I've been flipping back and forth between that and the baseball game. They did a segment on weighted practice swings in golf and baseball. apparently it does more harm than good by disrupting timing. The professional golfer actually lost 30 yards on his drive while using weighted practice swings.

Flipped back just in time for the Home Run...great ending!
