Opening Night Thread

I thought it would be fun to have an opening night thread, especially with the new features here and live comment updating.

So, with that being said, let's play ball!

just in time

Got checked into my hotel and fired up my computer in time for the lame world series predictions.

Unfortunately, another 10 minutes and I would have avoided this politically-themed intro.

I can't wait for the first pitch

You know, if Bush's throw hits the catcher's glove on the fly, it means the surge is working.

Elijah Dukes

I was listening to XM MLB home plate on the drive down here, and the hosts interviewed Elijah Dukes, and asked him what he thought of the atmosphere. He said it was exciting, and that he was excited to meet the president for the first time, and that maybe Bush would give him a gas card.

I am an Elijah Dukes fan.

So, what do you think?

Will the Brewers/Cubs game be rained out tomorrow?

I'm hoping for a 2 hour delay

That should be just enough time for me to get home. I was just going to skip lecture but go figure my professor would schedule an exam for opening day, must not be a baseball fan.

looking foward to the new season....

I have been looking in on this site for a little while but I thought I finally comment this season.
The new park there sure looks good.
A big Improvement on RFK - not that ,that would be difficult
Hope I make it through the game since it is now after 1am here.

ATL in the WS?

Lots of predictions having them going to the series... does anyone here even see them making the playoffs? I like the Mets in the East...

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 30, 2008 7:34 PM CDT   0 recs

uh oh

Jon Miller just mentioned Bill James in front of Joe Morgan. Fortunately, Morgan has no idea who that is.

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 30, 2008 7:39 PM CDT   0 recs

Did you watch Bill james on 60 minutes?

If you didn't, you didn't miss much.

by brewfan2 on Mar 30, 2008 7:41 PM CDT   0 recs

no

Seemed geared toward people that have never heard of him, though.

It was

but did you know that he was a night watchman at a pork and beans factory.

by brewfan2 on Mar 30, 2008 7:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It's actually mentioned frequently in articles about James :)

Drat

I thought the Nationals put an end to the chat with Bush segment. Although, with Miller and Morgan, it's not like we're missing out on any decent commentary on the game.

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 30, 2008 8:05 PM CDT   0 recs

This is like MNF

The way the action on the field is now incidental to the conversation in the booth

by Saltire on Mar 30, 2008 8:05 PM CDT   0 recs

yeah, that sucks

I've mentioned this about a hundred times, but when NBC first started doing Sunday Night Football, their HD feed had trouble, and so sometimes the only audio was the crowd noise. It was the best television viewing experience ever. Just like sitting in the stands.

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 30, 2008 8:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd get behind a movement to replace Miller and Morgan with Bush. He seems to be the only one paying attention to the game.

I did not think much of the call of the homerun by Bush but atleast he made an effort

That's Bush's problem

The inner city probably needs more than baseball.

by brewfan2 on Mar 30, 2008 8:19 PM CDT   0 recs

Nooooo...

Bush's problem is that he's vulnerable to the big inning.

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 30, 2008 8:20 PM CDT   0 recs

jeez louise

No wonder Joe Morgan knows so little about teams. They barely watch the games, with all these visitors and chats.

I should have added

He was talking to Manny Acta about Dmitry Young. It's just not important to Joe to get anything right about crappy teams like the Nats and the Rays.
