Friday's Frosty Mug
Good Friday morning, Brewer fans. Aaron Harang proved to be too much to handle last night, and as a result the Brewers wake up this morning sharing second place with the Chicago Cubs, their second straight day in second place. They're in Queens right now to open a 3 game series with the Metropolitans tonight, but the weather would suggest that's going to be a challenge. Since I'm predicting a rain delay anyway, you've got plenty of time for a Frosty Mug.

The only big Brewer news today is only somewhat Brewer related: Claudio Vargas signed with the Mets yesterday. It's a minor league deal so it's unlikely we'll see him this weekend, which is...um...unfortunate. Babes Love Baseball had this to say about it:
Uhh...what? I'll admit the last couple of days have been less than a carnival, but not once in 2008 have I said "Wow, I wish Claudio Vargas was here," unless I was comparing him to the other team's starting pitcher. There's nothing wrong with this team that a slow-working, 4-5 IP and out fifth starter would fix.
Brief Alphabetical Morning (BAM) Injury Reports:
Rays 3B Willy Aybar missed last night's game with hamstring soreness.
Rich Harden has been placed on the DL. Like the Masters, it's a tradition unlike any other.
Mike Lowell's sprained thumb has landed him on the DL, as well.
Giants OF Dave Roberts needs surgery to repair "extensive damage in his knee," and will miss several months.
The Cardinals are still in first place. I guess that means Dayn Perry's going to keep predicting their demise every day or two until it happens.
Yahoo will be the official provider of MLB.tv next season. Maybe with their revenue dependent on it, they can strongarm MLB into reducing the draconian blackout restrictions.
As I'm sure you've heard, there's a hawk patrolling Fenway Park. But did you know there's also ninjas?
If you're looking for work and you're better with stats than I am, Fangraphs is hiring paid writers.
That's all for today. Drink up.

Who cares what he had to say
Rays spokesman Rick Vaughn said this morning:blahblahblah.
I had to stop reading the article when I saw that the Rays spokesman was Rick Vaughn. How many times to you think a drunken fan has screamed at him "Throw 'im the heater" while spitting tobacco juice?

Heresy!
"There's nothing wrong with this team that a slow-working, 4-5 IP and out fifth starter would fix."
Don't you know he's a winner? Who cares if he averages only 5 1/3 IP per start in his career - you only need five to win! Forget the ~5.33 career FIP (using 3.2 as the constant) as a starter and ~5.63 overall, he flat out dominates Pittsburgh.

Whoops
That overall career FIP should really be ~5.35 (sorry, Mrs. Vargas!). :)

right, right
He's definitely no Dave Bush. Bulldog pitched well last time out - at least that's what Ned says and I'm guessing his corps of defenders. And oh, am I glad to not have to watch the slooooow wins. Those aren't "pleasant."
I'm very intrigued about the Yahoo! thing
Hopefully they can develop a better video player and help with the fact that I live in NC and am blocked from watching Reds, Nationals, Orioles, and Braves games even though Braves games are the only ones I could consistently see on TV. If the game isn't being shown on TV then why can't I view them online?
Precisely.
The other night, I think it was Tuesday, there wasn't a single game on TV at my home in NE Iowa. But there were no less than 6 teams (Milwaukee, Minnesota, Cubs, White Sox, Royals and Cardinals) that I wouldn't have been allowed to watch on MLB.TV anyway. There's not a single one of those teams that play their home games within a 3 hour drive of my place, and there's only two of them (the Cubs and White Sox, sadly) that are even covered by local sports networks I can get.
I realize there's only 3 million people in Iowa, but when market failures like this happen across the country, that's a major loss of revenue from people who either buy once and never return or learn first and never buy.
