Tom Haudricourt "Brewers Essential"
Tom Haudricourt, who we all know and "love" from the JSonline, will be discussing his book Brewers Essential this Thursday, April 24 at the Schwartz Bookstore in Mequon (10976 N. Port Washington Rd.) at 7 p.m.... Will Haudricourt diss Gross? Will he dismiss questions about Gagne?
There's no cost to attend, and I imagine that Haudricourt will probably take questions. I'm kind of tempted to see if he'll be willing to dish any dirt about exactly what soured the team to Estrada (besides his inability to take the first pitch).

Book
I’d never even heard of it before today, but here’s what Amazon has to say:
Book Description
The Milwaukee Brewers emerged in 1970 from the wreckage of the short-lived Seattle Pilots, and since their debut they have garnered passionate support from the Beer City’s baseball-crazy populace. The team’s history has been a roller-coaster ride of nonstop excitement, dotted with seasons both good and bad, graced by some of baseball’s greatest players-including Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers, Paul Molitor, and Robin Yount-and punctuated by an unforgettable World Series run in 1982. Brewers Essential is the perfect book for Brew Crew fans who can’t get enough information about their beloved team. Its insider stories, player biographies, statistics, trivia questions, and top-10 lists will earn the book a treasured place in the heart of every Milwaukee baseball fan.
From the Publisher
“I think the history of the Milwaukee Brewers started in 1978. That was when a bunch of castoffs and kids coming through the system were put in a mold by [George] Bamberger and became a winner.”
-from the foreword by Gorman Thomas
It sounds interesting, if I wouldn’t have to pay for it.
If Haudricourt does take questions, I’m sure he’d be more willing to answer about Brewers history rather than the current team or last year’s team.

I hadn't either.
I’m actually a bit miffed. Not that BCB is the be-all end-all of Brewers fandom on the web, but…if you’re marketing a book on the Brewers, wouldn’t you consider getting me/us on your side? One email offering a review copy would’ve done the trick.
Also, cheese.

Yeah
You’d think this is the niche market they’d be trying to hit.

I've read the book
It has maybe two chapters about the recent years, and mostly brushes over 1992-2005. Overall, it reads like a collection of newspaper columns focused on a few major moments/players in Brewers history. Probably the most interesting part for me was the Teddy Higuera stuff, as I didn’t realize how dominant he was until his first big injury. (In ‘88 with 227 innings pitched, he had a WHIP under 1)

"it reads like a collection of newspaper columns"
that’s probably what it is.

most likely
As far as I could tell, the book doesn’t come out and say that though.

At least Tony Kornheiser had the honesty to name his collection of previous columns "I'm Back For More Cash!"
It would be somewhat entertaining to see Tom H. talk to fans in a situation where he couldn’t afford to be dismissive and contemptuous.
