Gamethread # 5

It's just after 1PM on the east coast- do you know where your regular game threader is?

If you want the lineups Hyatt posted them below.

Manny Parra pitches today, and I'm pretty excited to see him...but not as excited as I am to see Sheets tomorrow, and certainly not as excited as I am that Sheets is matched up against Barry Zito and not Cain or Lincecum.  That's right, I like 'em easy. (you might think that there was a sexual joke in there, but that's because you're a pervert)

The boyfriend responsible for me supporting the Brewers emailed me "^^%&^%$&^%* Gagne?!" when you guys signed him. Erroneously I assumed you all disliked him.

Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

by BaronVonCurrentEvents on Apr 5, 2008 2:59 PM CDT up reply actions

It depends

On whether he can get through an inning without blowing a save.

by drezdn on Apr 5, 2008 2:59 PM CDT up reply actions

just terrified

after his start. If he's good, then XOXO

by ol Pete on Apr 5, 2008 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

not yet

i was advocating the signing even before it happened, i still think he could have a decent year. i'm not going to get too worked up over 1 game, i just don;t want it to bite me in the ass

by SunglassesAtNight on Apr 5, 2008 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I love

Gagne. With the Dodgers he would come out to Welcome to the Jungle and a video of him being a big dork and pushing up his glasses, than K-ing everyone. I think he can put together a decent year.

by Braunstalker on Apr 5, 2008 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Gagne just needs to be mean again

and catch a shave & a shower.

I saw him

coming out of Fenway the day after game 7 of the ALCS and he is huge. I wouldn't tell him that he sucks to his face.

Agreed

I'm a Gagne fan as well. Though I kind of like Turnbow too despite his...difficulties

Oh no. Merkin!

this makes no sense

but I always get Merkin Valdez and Kelvin Jimenez mixed up.

Also, cheese.

Merkin

So he's the Giant's McClung?

my 7 still functioning synapses

took a while to understand that

that's not good is it?

ok

Bocock, Lewis, Aurilia.

I think he should be able to handle this.

Also, cheese.

Gagne

must not be grizzled enough for Yost yet

The Wallbangers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!

Gagne

Doesn't like Bocock.

by drezdn on Apr 5, 2008 3:08 PM CDT reply actions

Gagne

Go figure that the only guy to really go after Bocock gets him to strike out.

Gameday

Is only reporting 2 errors now, Fielder's throwing error disappeared. Wonder if he sent a veggie burger upstairs to the scorer.

convoluted explanation by BA

of how Gagne treated the tie game on opening day like a save situation. BA then explains "That's what a veteran does." What did Gagne treat the actual save situation he was in as? Batting practice?

A win

Woo hoo.

Manny Parra

Has more wins this year than Sheets.

(Then again, so does Gagne)

by drezdn on Apr 5, 2008 3:14 PM CDT reply actions

Though

That's not meant as a knock against Sheets.

by drezdn on Apr 5, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

but

Sheets has fewer blown saves

by sheeter on Apr 5, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

but Sheets

has as many wins as the Tigers.

by molitorfan on Apr 5, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

alright!

gagne can pitch!

we'll have to wait until another day to see how he does against a lineup full of major leaguers, but this is an important first step.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 5, 2008 3:14 PM CDT reply actions

going for the sweep with a regular lineup tomorrow hopeuflly

Yeah

my guess is Braun feast's on his brain.

by Braunstalker on Apr 5, 2008 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Is Matt Laporta

better than all of today's starting Giant's outfield?

by Braunstalker on Apr 5, 2008 3:15 PM CDT reply actions

interesting...

LaPorta would probably rack up as many strikeouts as all three combined, but that aside, it's possible.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 5, 2008 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

I wonder how many teams

Alciedes Escobar would start on

by ol Pete on Apr 5, 2008 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

right now

the Giants for sure. probably not many others.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 5, 2008 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Theriot

At least as of today, he's been drop to the 8 spot in their lineup. I'd feel sorry for him if he weren't a Cub.

I wonder how much love talk radio callers

and forum posters will give Gagne?

What's that phrase? Zero to hero?

by ol Pete on Apr 5, 2008 3:22 PM CDT reply actions

He must've

officially been turned down for the part he wanted in 'The Last Full Measure'

by sheeter on Apr 5, 2008 3:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I hope not much

retiring 8-9-1 in the Giants order is nice, but anybody in a major league bullpen should be able to do that most of the time.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 5, 2008 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions

if he doesn't do well next time

they'll just grab the big transmission lever and throw it from Hero to Zero.
