well, it's kind of a silly piece
the vast, vast, vast majority of bloggers don't have that pressure-cooker lifestyle, and neither are they paid by the post. (the vast majority don't make any money at all.)
and two deaths and a heart attack do not a crisis make. it's just standard-issue, "we in the mainstream media hate bloggers, let's start hinting that blogging is bad for you. as if your mother's basement isn't putrid enough!"
Also, cheese.

Hey, anyone else going to the game today? I'll be the one in the Brewers hat.

when I lived in Madison
I got an email at the last minute for a really great concert in new york ...like, my very favorite music by my very favorite group. I basically had enough time to hop in the car, get on the road, and make it. (18 hours, give or take.) If my gf hadn't talked sense into me, I would've done it.

not bad.
if you have to play a sunday lineup, i kind of like the idea of playing your sunday lineup on saturday. especially against the giants, when your sunday lineup can probably beat their regulars -- then play your regulars against *their* sunday lineup, and it's (on paper, anyway) an even easier win.
I think there's some statistical work to be done to prove that, but for now I'm going to take the easy way out and say it's intuitively true.
Also, cheese.

Cubs Comment
I like this from Baseball Musings
A reader left this comment yesterday:
Hey Pinto, how bout a little love for the Cubs on this board? Fukudome's got a .600 OBP and is slugging .875. Maybe he's for real...
The Cubs aren't exactly off to a great start. The did do a job on Roy Oswalt yesterday (no strikeouts for Roy strikes me as unusual). The rest of the team is hitting just .230, however, and Kosuke drew better than 14 of the team's walks. There's not much to love about the Cubs right now.

has the Brewers. I like our broadcast crew, but regardless I'm watching the other feed. FSN when it isn't tripping over itself, doesn't seem to value showing actual play on the field, the left side especially.

It looks nothing like Prince Fielder, but imagine if the 1986 movie Soul Man had starred Bill Schroeder instead of C. Thomas Howell.

OK
I've run the numbers for today's game ... I've even put together a super-dorky spreadsheet so I can do it in the future.
Based on the lineups, here's what the offense is set to contribute:
SF: 3.15 runs
MIL: 4.84
Based on a very simple approximation of starting pitcher endurance and bullpen strength, here's the pitching expectation:
SF: 4.65 runs allowed
MIL: 4.59
Put it all together, and the projected score is:
MIL 4.8
SF 3.1
Which translates to a 69% chance of a Brewers victory.
Also, cheese.

Why
If the Giants are expected to score 3.15 and the Brewers should give up 4.59 does that lower the expect score for the Giants, I would of thought it would go up

because both are below average
the average NL team is projected to score ~4.65 runs per game. So Sheets + bullpen is better than average, while the Giants offense is worse than average, which means the projected run total is lower still.
