They're clamping down all around

There are limitations that broadcast people complain about. I think it hurts in the long run, but they're slurping up cash now. "Internet" revenues is some ginormous number, so you know owners are groovin' on that.

I come back to peek at the TV

and I see ARam with a cruddy throw even DLee can't shovel up. It thrilled the Cubs fans no end to talk about Braun's defense - actually to some it is still a thrill - but Aramis really is starting out the year badly.

And why oh why do they put something white on the black strips under their eyes?

Oh, and a poor job of playing a ball off the wall by the fantastic Fukudome...

by ol Pete on Apr 7, 2008 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Quick question

Are you ACTUALLY saying that's an easy wall to play off of? If that ball hits 1 foot down, it lands in front of Fukudome because it hits the chainlink. It's not his fault that they have a multi surface outfield wall that seems to change every few feet or so.

.... Edit #3: We're gonna go 159 and 3 this year, I can feel it!!!

by Beaushek on Apr 7, 2008 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep

Easy wall to play off of. Corey Hart would have played it perfectly.

by Stoa on Apr 7, 2008 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Lol, please look at the wall

It's not easy at all, in interchanges between chain link and solid. So really, you got a coinflip.

.... Edit #3: We're gonna go 159 and 3 this year, I can feel it!!!

by Beaushek on Apr 7, 2008 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

whether it's easy or not

(and I don't think I can judge)

it must be hard for Fukudome the first few weeks ... maybe even the first full year. In June and July he'll still be seeing parks for the first time, and it's got to be a challenge to live up to a reputation as a quality defender up against that.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 7, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

D'Backs sign Young for 6 years

link

As per MLB.com
Would the value of this deal have any bearing on the value of deal Braun would get from the Brewers?

by Saltire on Apr 7, 2008 2:08 PM CDT reply actions

one difference

since Braun wasn't called up until May last year, he has one more year till free agency than Young does. That means he'll be more expensive in each corresponding year (probably) but there's one more of them.

It's tricky ... I'll be very curious to see what kinds of numbers are tossed around in the Braun talks.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 7, 2008 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Nothing to do with the Brewers

But just seeing hightlights of top of the first from Camden Yards and the Orioles will be lucky if they have 10,000 people there.
The only team I think they are going to beat in attendence this year will be the Marlins
It is a change days from a few years ago and all those sell-outs

by battlekow on Apr 7, 2008 4:46 PM CDT up reply actions

No evidence

I'd just like to believe that he might have a tendency to K a bit, but the Pitchers don't have a book on him yet so they don't know what he goes for every time.

Like, say Jenkins went to Japan, and Japanese teams didn't know that he can't hit left handers.
