Game Thread #7b: Extras!

Ok, Eric Gagne sucks.

But he's about to go 2-0!

Go Brewers!

UPDATE: I am complete idiot.  When Patterson tied the game, I forgot that the Brewers got to hit again in the 9th.

Let's hope there are no extras.

UPDATE: I am still an idiot, but at least we're going into extra innings now.  Gagne's a bigger idiot.

A new superstition...

I had been standing with the home fans, at my desk, with two strikes and two outs in the 9th. Scrapping that one.

One of the reasons I wanted Riske

Is specifically for Dunn as he is good against lefties. I guess a walk wasn't too bad there.

Gagne

I'm not making excuses, but that was a good pitch that Patterson hit. His speeds were a little slower tonight, but that Patterson, every once in a while, reminds us why he continually is given a job.

and it's one downside of power relievers

they throw really hard, so you don't have to provide all the power to jack it out of the park. fortunately that doesn't happen too often, but it does happen.

Also, cheese.

Let's trade for Todd Jones

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Apr 8, 2008 10:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Again, it's not to worrisome

He'll probably straighten it out. Cordero blew plenty of saves last year, too, and his road ERA was over 6.

by jihad on Apr 8, 2008 10:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

And it did just barely clear.

I do recall a similar one from a Phillie vs. Cordero last year...

Theory

I'm guessing Ned is/was saving Riske in case the team doesn't win in the bottom of this inning. Torres will only get this inning unless he bats for himself, so Ned's probably setting up having Riske for multiple innings.

Possible

That does make some sense but the big lefties were up last inning.

by dixieflatline on Apr 8, 2008 10:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I think that's right.

And maybe not tonight either. With Bush going tomorrow it's a good bet the pen will have to go 4 innings tomorrow, and that's a lot easier if Riske throws two of them.

They had a pregame video from the 70s or early 80s that explained the Two-Fisted Slopper. Now it makes sense! (You lush!)

Yes

Did they show the actual Slopper? I'm still looking for the real image ... I unfortunately didn't think in 1990 that I would need a picture of the guy (or his son a few years later).

The bunt worked

but I am not a huge fan of pinch hitting a position player just to bunt there.

In a 0-out, 1-run wins all game it's sound

Especially with Kendall, Weeks, Kapler up

by Lake County on Apr 8, 2008 10:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

but you kind of have to

if you bring in parra, say, they can field very aggressively against the bunt, and you run a big risk of the dp, or at least losing the lead runner.

Also, cheese.
