Huntsville Game Thread

Get the bitter taste of today's debacle out of your mouth with a heaping helping of minor league awesomeness. Steve Hammond is pitching for the Stars; opposing him is way-overrated Cubs prospect Jeff Samardzija. It's already 2-0 after an inning thanks to these two gentlemen:

Michael Brantley with a two-run double in the second

4-0 Huntsville. Brantley is a guy whose name you should know.

He's extremely quick and good.

Gamel follows with an RBI single

5-0.

He's extremely quick and good.

Bonus low minors coverage!

The Manatees are ahead 2-1; Taylor Green has a double. Speaking of doubles, the Power racked up three in the first, including one by Zelous Wheeler, which I think gives him 14 on the season, and are also winning 2-1.

He's extremely quick and good.

Mat Gamel

The irrational, casual fan inside of me demands that he be called up to play third base. Or wherever.

I hope "casual, irrational fan" likes 3 error games then.

But I hear ya. The same voice is whispering in my head too, and not just about Gamel. The image of LaPorta in right and Hart in center jumps into my head every time I see Cameron’s BA has dipped below .200.

Here’s a question: is any other team in either league leading off its batting order with two sub-.200 hitters? Has any other team ever done that?

Doug, please fire Ned.

Everyone.

The White Sox had Swisher first and Uribe 9th a lot until recently

Which isn’t leading off, but it’s a hole in the lineup. What’s fun is that, coming into the day today, Weeks and Cameron were both in the top five for highest OPS among players with 40+ PA (a little under what Cameron had) and a batting average of .200 or below. There’s a dull silver lining, huh?

Yeah.

And Cameron’s numbers are still skewed by the fact that it’s essentially April 10th for him. A few 2 hit games in a row would send his numbers through the roof at this point. Mostly I was just curious because I didn’t recall ever seeing that at the top of a lineup this far into the season before.

Doug, please fire Ned.

Love,
Everyone.

Just pretend that they are the Brewers, and this is can be a lot of fun, folks!

Whenever prince is at first, he should charge the mound and yell "MEAT!"

Brewers reliever Riske lands on DL [DiFelice called up]
Well, that sucked again. But put this afternoon's game, and the seventh inning in particular, out of your mind for the evening and focus instead on the return of the Brewers' best pitching prospect to the mound after a 50-game drug suspension. That's right, Jeremy Jeffress is once again suiting up for the Brewers--or, more precisely, the High-A Brevard County Manatees. The game starts at 6:00 Central, and you can follow it here.
