He's extremely quick and good.

I prefer this one

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

Next stop Huntsville

Then Brevard County

Has anyone tested his eyes?

hearing that it happened even in AAA really puts into perspective where Derrick is at right now

I went to the game tonight

There was about 300 people in the crowd by the time he came into pitch. It was very hard to watch. His mechanics were all over the place. His fastball was 92-97 on the stadium gun with no command whatsoever. When he walked the bases loaded there was no one warming up in the bullpen and the Sounds went into the stall routine to allow another guy to get up quick. Branyan visited the mound, then Rottino. I don’t think a word was said. The man looked demoralized.

Here are a couple pics

I should have mentioned the stalling happened after Turnbow walked the run in.

good lord

This might be the single saddest thing I’ve ever seen on the Internet. The description of the multiple mound visits from his teammates was kind of like watching the death of a pet.

This matches perfectly with the single saddest thing to happen in a Milwaukee bar this past weekend: My repeatedly saying, “I actually like Gagné” throughout the top of the 9th on Saturday while the people around me became increasingly enraged until he ended up blowing the game.

However, at 3:25 a.m., I have to end the night on a positive note. Braunie!!!!

After the wild pitch

made it second and third, I knew before reading the next line that a walk was on the way. Remember Dennis Hopper in Speed, insisting that bombs are meant to be exploded? It’s the same way with bases. They’re meant to be loaded - that’s why they’re there.

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

If ever there was a guy for a sports psychologist

Turnbow is him.

Dixies, after seeing your nifty Gagne work, any chance we could get a look at Turnbow’s stuff. It would be interesting to see if anything mechanical changed from the first part of last year when he was really good to the end of last year and this year when he has looked like a blind man driving a bus.

"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."

Isn't Riske supposed to be the Pychologist?

He did help Zach Greinke

As Riske helped Greinke became dominant again, their relationship began rubbing off on the rest of the Royals’ relievers.

“Without him in the bullpen, we wouldn’t have been anywhere close to what we did,” Greinke said. “We probably would have been a lot more like we had been over the last four or five years, a well-below-average bullpen. And I’m pretty confident that just by his help, we’ll be able to continue the things he taught.”

Now Riske will have a chance to connect with a new bullpen that includes another talented but troubled teammate: Brewers reliever Derrick Turnbow, who was hounded by fans as he frittered away leads last season.

Riske plans to help his teammates in the bullpen forget bad outings.

“You’ve just got to flush the bad ones out. It’s easy to say it and it’s very hard to do it because we’re all competitors,” Riske said. “I hate to lose. I hate to fail at anything. It’s tough. I always say relievers have the hardest job in the game. You have to be perfect every single time out or else you didn’t do your job.”

Damn

I thought maybe he would get his shit together in the minors.

The guy stilll has good stuff, when he doesn’t overthrow the slider and gets his fastball near the plate.

Hopefully by some miricle of God he will get it togeather because we need him to be good and in the majors

by nezy37 on May 13, 2008 12:07 PM CDT   0 recs

At least

he will be available to pitch again tonight

Now that it's over, how will you remember the Brewers' season?
  • A rousing success. They made the playoffs, something they hadn't done since before many bloggers here were born.
  • Mostly satisfying. If you'd told me 90 wins and a playoff berth at the beginning of the year, I'd have taken it, but the limp the finish took some of the sparkle off.
  • Great on its own, but downgraded after accouting for context; with Sabathia and Sheets most likely having thrown their last pitch for the team, the Brewers may have blown their golden opportunity.
  • I'm left feeling unfulfilled. I think the team was capable of a lot more than it showed. With a healthy Sheets, who knows how far they go?
  • They're the crappiest bunch of crap that ever crapped.
