Speaking of them
I was considering going to see one of Roque Mercedes’ starts later this year but man has he been pitching poorly. I remember when he was signed several people getting really excited about him. Doesn’t look like his stuff has translated well at all.

Can I just ask a stupid question?
How long until we go to a platoon at 3B with Hall playing mostly VS lefties and Russel Branyan playing against righties? Is that completely off base? Anyone know if Branyan’s defense is adequate?.....I don’t remember; I thought he was OK.
(Please forgive my obvious Russel Branyan fixation)

probably wouldn't hurt to try it
hall is hitting something like .156 against righties, and if 3TOs defense isn’t all that passable you can always bring hall in as a late inning replacement.

I don't think it's a stupid idea
But who goes down/away to make room for him? Joe Dillon, I guess. He seems to be the last guy at the end of the bench right now.
Don't try to do too much with it. Just take the ball the other way.

If only Tony Gwynn hit right-handed...

Absolutely Joe Dillon.......
I like Joltin’ Joe as much as the next guy, but he plays 1B & LF and those aren’t really positions where we need a backup guy. Really his only productivity comes in pinch hit situations. Branyan could at least backup at a spot where you aren’t getting a lot of production right now. I know Billy’s been fine with the long ball, but isn’t his OBP under .300? That’s not gonna cut it…..
At least occaisionally against a righty you could have a lineup that included Branyan, Fielder, TGjr, and Counsell subbing for Weeks or Hardy. I just don’t understand why we are so content to be all right handed heavy on the crap end of the platoon split there.

The problem is that teams seek a good L/R balance among their bench players
If Branyan was right-handed, he’d probably be playing Joe Dillon’s role right now. Of course, Branyan’s left-handedness makes him a more valuable player overall because of platoon splits…just not on this specific team. Sure, the team could ditch Gwynn and use Dillon or Branyan as corner outfield subs, reserving Kapler for center field, but I don’t really see that happening.
He's extremely quick and good.

T'Bow
2 walks, 2/3 of an inning. How many pitching coach trips to the mound?
It’s better than his first AAA appearance, but that line still doesn’t look very good.
Here’s hoping he can get it together. Whether or not he’ll help the Brewers this year or in the future, I’m rooting for him at this point.
Don't try to do too much with it. Just take the ball the other way.
