Well, that sucked again. But put this afternoon's game, and the seventh inning in particular, out of your mind for the evening and focus instead on the return of the Brewers' best pitching prospect to the mound after a 50-game drug suspension. That's right, Jeremy Jeffress is once again suiting up for the Brewers--or, more precisely, the High-A Brevard County Manatees. The game starts at 6:00 Central, and you can follow it here.

anybody else
think it’s bullshit that they test for non-performance enhancing substances anyway? I mean, if they want to pull some sort of moralizing “our players are good guys too!” thing, they could just suspend guys after they get caught by the law. Why do they need testing?
Steve Howe, Dwight Gooden, Darrell Strawberry etc.
It helps the owners identify problem children before they become dangerous to themselves and waste the owners money by not performing. It’s mostly about the money.

that's a society wide issue
If you asked me twenty years ago whether pot would be illegal in ten, I said no. Ten years ago, I thought the whole silly thing would be over by now. But now, I don’t think its going to change any time soon.
If they test for non-performance enhancing drugs
Why don’t they test for Cheeseburgers and Cigarettes too, they kill a lot more people than pot and I could
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
Those things aren't illegal
The performance/health aspect is only part of the reason owner’s have legitimate cause to be concerned if their players are using any illegal substance. You don’t want a guy on your major league roster who could wind up arrested in the middle of the season.

Too bad the MLBPA doesn't cover/care about minor leaguers
They don’t test major leaguers for non-PE substances, do they?
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
think of 15 other things they should ban before that… and what about all of the guys who were named in the Mitchel report and got nothing for performance ENHANCING drugs… I guess life is never fair. But the players using drugs have no one to blame but themselves I guess, if you are in the business of getting to the big league, you can’t be that dumb

Rocky debut so far
Jeffress struck out the side in the first, around two walks, a single, and a wild pitch, but gave up two two-run homers in the second.
Brevard County is facing Jeff Allison for I think the third time already.
He's extremely quick and good.
Ugh
Final line: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 2 HR
Well, at least the strikeouts are nice…
He's extremely quick and good.
He just needs to relax
and maybe find something to take the edge off.
