Game Thread #42: Brewers (20-21) at Red Sox (24-19)
Jeff Suppan against Daisuke Matsuzaka. I try to be optimistic, but this is just ridiculous. We're in the weaker league, playing one of the best teams in the stronger league. Our ace isn't pitching this series, and we just traded in one of our good relievers for someone who has never pitched in the big leagues.
So...one of out three is ok by me. Maybe that one will be tonight. Here's the BR Game Preview. Among the Red Sox who have faced Suppan before, the numbers aren't pretty.
Game time is 6:05 Central.
Go Brewers!

ok, so joe dillon is no
superstar in the field, but he’s not better than prince or weeks? enough to not worry about “hurting” either of their feelings?
Bring Back The Old Logo!
The Brewers need everyone
Even the guys that have had a terrible time of it thus far. In order to beat the Red Sox, many of these guys need to come through, and I like counting on the regulars more than I’d like to see Gwynn or Counsell out there.

Although
I am surprised that Dillon is the DH instead of Kapler. Dillon is another one of those guys that I have never liked, but he’s rocking the small sample (yeah, yeah, same with Kapler).

channeling Ned
Matzusaki throws a lot of pitches and will walk guys. Joe takes a lot of pitches and walks, or rather “he gives me good at bats.”
DH
they should have called up Laporta or Gamel to DH in the interleague games… I’m desperate here.
by keephopealive on May 16, 2008 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions
Nah, that would use up one of their options
Brad Nelson was a realistic DH possibility, though.
He's extremely quick and good.
Jeff you sound like you need a drink or 5 to calm down.
The Brewers will take two of 3 from Boston then go in and get swept in Pittsburgh.
Now go have a beer and relax ;)
Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.
Personally,
I’ll be happy if they win one game in this series. But they need to find a way to win 5 of 10 on the trip or things could get ugly. You can’t win a division in May, but you can lose it if you drop behind 4 teams and fall back by 10 games or so.
Doug, please fire Ned.
Love,
Everyone.

Rogue Jim is going to be excited
The Crabbe Man is back in the Brewers organization.
He's the round mound of profound
He's going to have his own regular column
Once the other guy heals, RJ is going to have a regular feature called ‘Crabbe ‘n Choate’
by Marty McSuperFly on May 16, 2008 5:49 PM CDT up reply actions
That sounds vaguely like a cooking show.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Imagine if they both got injured
The injury report would read like a classy meal: Crabbe (legs), Choate (knee).
He's extremely quick and good.
Rain delay
Any word on how long this will last?
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
looks like the nastyness has passed...
that dense red spot is now past boston proper. just green and some yellow to worry about. so…like 20 dbz whatever a dbz is:P
by PagsBrewCrew on May 16, 2008 6:49 PM CDT up reply actions
I believe DBZ stands for Decibels
My guess is they use Decibels as the unit to measure the strength of the return they get off an object. I could be wrong I had a 2 day radar course 20 years ago in the Navy so it is all a little fuzzy lol

I was tempted to take the bus or train up this weekend...
...but the extremely crappy $50 tickets deterred me.
Also, cheese.

On the bright side
There’s a ton of starters on the roster in case of a doubleheader.

Not for now
Maybe at some point in the future.

i had initially planned for 3 years off of school
3 became 5. 5 became 7. :P

so...what i'm saying is...
if you even do want to go to grad school, best thing to do is take some time off. and if you dont want to do grad school and enjoy your job, there’s no need to ever go back.

Find a job that will pay for grad school
Then have those poor saps pay for it. I got an MBA for about $4K out of pocket.

Any guesses
On the number of times Shousie will be brought in to face Ortiz and left in to face Manny? I’m betting at least once, but more than likely twice.
Wow
If that happens, I will feel no shame in rooting for Manny to put it over the monster.
by Marty McSuperFly on May 16, 2008 7:14 PM CDT up reply actions
What's the Over/Under
On the number of times this weekend FSN will show Ned hitting his bomb over the Green Monster near the end of the 82 season?
Only 1 so far by my count.
I remember it from when it happened.
When the Brewers named Yost their manager, my first thought was, “You mean the guy who hit that big homerun against Boston?” That was the only thing I remember from Ned’s playing career. Though I do have a Ned Yost 1983 Topps Baseball card somewhere. I think he’s bunting in the photo.
If the delay's long enough
does DiFelice get to start?
(I’m “watching” the game on Yahoo [because everything else is blocked] so I have no idea what’s going on other than ‘delayed’ and at heart I’m just kidding about the alternate starter, but you never know with this team.)
I was right
from here: “Had officials tried to start the game with rain still threatening, Yost would have started right-handed callup Mark DiFelice, saving Suppan in case a doubleheader was necessitated later in the weekend.”
At least he isn’t doing what I had feared tomorrow and started DiFelice and McClung in place of Suppan and Bush. ;)
amusing..
..i wish i had seen his rain delay antics.
also a catcher that pitched? what were the circumstances of THAT one? a manager even more nuts than ned?:P
by PagsBrewCrew on May 16, 2008 7:37 PM CDT up reply actions
awwww...
does this still count as game #42 in the list, and tomorrow will be #43? not that it matters…

those boston wimps were scared to face the crew
so they paid off the umps.

And
looking forward to two straight HD nationally televised games this weekend (plus a likely makeup game Sunday night).
How does that work out
with the scheduled 3:00 FOX start?
Whenever prince is at first, he should charge the mound and yell "MEAT!"
bah...
just checked my listings. dodgers/angels

Move the series here..
Get a roof already! Move the series here! We’ll probably see some AL Ball from the Twins once their open air stadium opens.
Well there is always Nashville and Huntsville
Branyan just hit a HR for the Sounds they are up 5-1 bottom of 3rd. The Stars are tied 1-1 top of 3.
The Wallbangers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!
I wonder
if we’ll see Branyan back in the majors this season. I bet we will in September.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
I just heard the news
and of course, being originally from the northwest, my initial response was “Wah, it can’t be that bad – just play in the puddles guys.”
Of course, that is until I looked at the radar…
Double header on Sunday then?
"Brett Favre looks like a man in a parking lot playing with boys." - John Madden
"Pujols just unloaded." - Bob Uecker
Ugh
Don’t look now, but we’re only 1.5 games out of last place in the Central, and the Reds have won 4 in a row.
Criminy.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
A quick pitstop at the bottom
Then they quickly fire Ned and then our rise to the top begins. It’ll be well worth it.
Extra Innings
Hopefully they add the night game to Extra Innings. The local Fox station actually has the afternoon game on, so I could go from not seeing a Saturday game all year to seeing 2 in one day. Although I would miss the Uek, who is the usual Saturday fill in.
