Game Thread #42-k: Brewers at Red Sox

Let's try this again.  Daisuke vs. Suppan at 1:35 CT (EDIT: Game time is actually 2:55 CT. -bk).  Those of us with mlb.tv won't get video, but really, is an afternoon with Uecker such a bad thing?

(No, it isn't.)

There's no Mug today, so if you see anything interesting on the Interwebs this morning, drop a note in the comments for us.  Thanks!

Go Brewers!

1:35?

I thought it was 3 PM. Did it change because of last night?

Wondering the same thing...

Maybe they figured out it would be impossible to hustle everyone out and the new crowd in during the 1hr break between games they originally had scheduled…

Doug, please fire Ned.

Love,
Everyone.

Drinking..

I think Jeff did a bit to much drinking last night! It’s Saturday and I still think it’s on for 3pm on FOX. At least JSOnline, ESPN, MLB, Rotoworld haven’t changed start times. Sundays at 1:35ct.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 12:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

weird...

I guess I was thinking of the sunday start time.

i was really sure of myself, though :).

Also, cheese.

Pitcher grades

This would be your mid-term, or first quarter grades given by Brew Town Beat. I like this blog and am starting to check this one on a daily basis. I don’t know if this has been discussed before, but is a links section not allowed by SBNation because they don’t want us visiting the competition? There are a lot of great blogs out there, and I know we all love BrewCrewBall, but this can be the homepage for a lot of fans, I when I check the site 15 times a day, sometimes there are no new comments or articles, and I need more Brewer information.

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

i need to put up a blogroll

i’ve just been too lazy since the site switched over to the new format.

Also, cheese.

Conflicted

I can’t decide who to root for in the Cubs/Pirates game. It’s not good for the Brewers for either team to win.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 12:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Oh, wait

It’s at Wrigley. It’s easy to hope all those douchebag Cubs fans witness a loss.

3-2 Cubs in the top of the 4th

Dougie Alphabet just hit an RBI single to bring the Pirates to within one. Zambrano is pitching for Chicago.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:08 PM CDT   0 recs

Soriano hit a solo shot

4-2 Cubs. Zambrano broke his bat over his knee after grounding out in the previous at-bat.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Pirates get the run right back

First & third, nobody out, after an RBI single from McLouth. Zambrano walked Zach Duke on four pitches to start the inning.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

This televised anywhere besides MLB.tv?

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 1:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ah, just what I was waiting for

Kasper and Brenly wondering whether the bad inning has anything to do with breaking the bat over his knee. After it happened, Brenly was quite obviously displeased. “No reason for that.”

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Bay walks

Bases loaded, no outs. LaRoche up.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

LaRoche singles

4-4. Zambrano’s coming out of the game.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Sac fly Nady

5-4 Pirates. First & third, one out, as Bay wisely moved to third.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugh

Mientkiewicz lines into a double play.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 1:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I wondered if you were kidding about the bat, but I guess not.

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 2:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Zambrano

taken out of the game after only 73 pitches.

by oconnobe on May 17, 2008 2:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Soriano

2nd HR of the game. 5-5

by oconnobe on May 17, 2008 2:09 PM CDT   0 recs

7 HR in his past 6 games

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 2:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

And he's STILL only hitting .289/.326/.587

That’s how much he was sucking before.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 2:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

My fantasy trade two weeks ago

Ortiz for Soriano straight up is becoming painful

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

by Kyguy922 on May 17, 2008 2:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I wonder if he's still being selfish

He could’ve at least hit that HR with someone on base to give them the lead.

Tied at 5 at the end of 8

He's extremely quick and good.

Cards winning 7-4,

but Gary Glover struck out the only 2 hitters he faced in relief for the Rays. There’s a blast from the past.

by oconnobe on May 17, 2008 2:23 PM CDT   0 recs

Braun

Looks like they may be doing a feature on Braun on the FOX pregame show coming up.

Man, Marmol has nasty stuff

He's extremely quick and good.

Carlos Pena

3-run homer for the Rays. 8-7 Cardinals

by oconnobe on May 17, 2008 2:40 PM CDT   0 recs

Too late to save Matt Garza

Rapidly approaching fish-or-cut-bait time for him on my fantasy team.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 2:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Soriano 5-5

Ground rule double into the vines. 12 total bases.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 2:49 PM CDT   0 recs

I just looked at the last two at bats

and they were throwing him a lot of fastballs.

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 2:58 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Whew

Theriot doubled in Soriano, and Lee almost hit one out, but the Pirates won.

He's extremely quick and good.

He's extremely quick and good.

Game 2

Anyone know if Game 2 is going to be on TV? Or do I spend the evening with a 6 pack and the radio?

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 2:56 PM CDT   0 recs

Bob and Jim

Guess it’s a 6er with Bob and Jim then. To bad it’s supposed to rain tonight, would be a nice day for a fire and delicious beer and Brewers.

anyone that throws Ricky a ball to open the game, hasn’t prepped sufficiently

by drezdn on May 17, 2008 3:02 PM CDT   0 recs

They wanted Prince to lead off the second

So he’ll have a chance to steal some bases.

A lot of the time that fake move

will disrupt a right-handed batter. Except here, it was a strike, and Cameron popped it up.

And a lot of people think when a guy signs a contract like that, he’s leaving a lot of money on the table. Which I believe he did.

Oi, I don’t know if I can make it through this game.

Watch the OTA

Watch the OTA Feed and mute the TV and listen to the radio. It syncs pretty well.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 3:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hope we get the good Supp today

Maybe a good thing that he’s not pitching in a cold damp start – didn’t work out so well last time.

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 3:07 PM CDT   0 recs

Huh

and Jim Rice was a better defender than Ted Williams, and thus should be in the hall of fame.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:10 PM CDT   0 recs

Manny high-fived Barry Switzer's nephew

Suppan hits him in retaliation.

He's extremely quick and good.

Bandwagon jumper

Lots of reasons to like the Red Sox when you live in Oklahoma.

by molitorfan on May 17, 2008 3:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

ouch

Looks like a little of both the hand and the bat

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yep...

but it must have just glanced off the hand. I don’t care who you are, you get hit with a ball on the hand and it makes that noise you’re going to do more than grimace…

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on May 17, 2008 3:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

even

He's extremely quick and good.

C'mon JD

let’s see a groundout

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:14 PM CDT   0 recs

What the hell happened to this half-inning?

didn’t we have 2 out and nobody on a minute ago?

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on May 17, 2008 3:15 PM CDT   0 recs

ugh

Souper Campbell Soup needs to step it up

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:15 PM CDT   0 recs

So instead of the brewer's game I am getting the Indians v. Reds game

Fausto Carmona is pitching for the tribe. He is seriously one of the best pitchers in the majors though he probably doesn’t get as much hype as he should. He also is one of the most interesting pitchers out there. I wonder how both the scouts and the stat guys missed on him?

The name

No one wants to deal with the devil

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Faust was the guy that dealt with the devil, not the devil himself

I’d love to deal with a guy willing to sell his soul.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 3:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

right

But if you sign Fielder, you get Boras. You sign Fausto, you get the devil.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He wasn't untouted

You gotta love the 18/35 K/BB in 48.7 innings.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on May 17, 2008 3:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He never was higher than like 70th on BA's top 100

And only rated one time. He was always behind Sowers who might still be something but clearly not that good. I don’t think BP ever rated him in their top prospects list.
