Game Thread #42-k: Brewers at Red Sox
Let's try this again. Daisuke vs. Suppan at 1:35 CT (EDIT: Game time is actually 2:55 CT. -bk). Those of us with mlb.tv won't get video, but really, is an afternoon with Uecker such a bad thing?
(No, it isn't.)
There's no Mug today, so if you see anything interesting on the Interwebs this morning, drop a note in the comments for us. Thanks!
Go Brewers!

1:35?
I thought it was 3 PM. Did it change because of last night?
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Wondering the same thing...
Maybe they figured out it would be impossible to hustle everyone out and the new crowd in during the 1hr break between games they originally had scheduled…
Doug, please fire Ned.
Love,
Everyone.

Drinking..
I think Jeff did a bit to much drinking last night! It’s Saturday and I still think it’s on for 3pm on FOX. At least JSOnline, ESPN, MLB, Rotoworld haven’t changed start times. Sundays at 1:35ct.
weird...
I guess I was thinking of the sunday start time.
i was really sure of myself, though :).
Also, cheese.

Pitcher grades
This would be your mid-term, or first quarter grades given by Brew Town Beat. I like this blog and am starting to check this one on a daily basis. I don’t know if this has been discussed before, but is a links section not allowed by SBNation because they don’t want us visiting the competition? There are a lot of great blogs out there, and I know we all love BrewCrewBall, but this can be the homepage for a lot of fans, I when I check the site 15 times a day, sometimes there are no new comments or articles, and I need more Brewer information.
http://brewtownbeat.blogspot.com/2008/05/first-quarter-grades-pitchers.html
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
i need to put up a blogroll
i’ve just been too lazy since the site switched over to the new format.

Conflicted
I can’t decide who to root for in the Cubs/Pirates game. It’s not good for the Brewers for either team to win.

Oh, wait
It’s at Wrigley. It’s easy to hope all those douchebag Cubs fans witness a loss.

3-2 Cubs in the top of the 4th
Dougie Alphabet just hit an RBI single to bring the Pirates to within one. Zambrano is pitching for Chicago.
He's extremely quick and good.
Soriano hit a solo shot
4-2 Cubs. Zambrano broke his bat over his knee after grounding out in the previous at-bat.
He's extremely quick and good.
Pirates get the run right back
First & third, nobody out, after an RBI single from McLouth. Zambrano walked Zach Duke on four pitches to start the inning.
He's extremely quick and good.
Ah, just what I was waiting for
Kasper and Brenly wondering whether the bad inning has anything to do with breaking the bat over his knee. After it happened, Brenly was quite obviously displeased. “No reason for that.”
He's extremely quick and good.
Sac fly Nady
5-4 Pirates. First & third, one out, as Bay wisely moved to third.
He's extremely quick and good.
And he's STILL only hitting .289/.326/.587
That’s how much he was sucking before.
He's extremely quick and good.
My fantasy trade two weeks ago
Ortiz for Soriano straight up is becoming painful
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
I wonder if he's still being selfish
He could’ve at least hit that HR with someone on base to give them the lead.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Cards winning 7-4,
but Gary Glover struck out the only 2 hitters he faced in relief for the Rays. There’s a blast from the past.
Too late to save Matt Garza
Rapidly approaching fish-or-cut-bait time for him on my fantasy team.
He's extremely quick and good.
Whew
Theriot doubled in Soriano, and Lee almost hit one out, but the Pirates won.
He's extremely quick and good.
Did they just say "Red Sox and Bruins"?

They wanted Prince to lead off the second
So he’ll have a chance to steal some bases.
He's the round mound of profound
A lot of the time that fake move
will disrupt a right-handed batter. Except here, it was a strike, and Cameron popped it up.
And a lot of people think when a guy signs a contract like that, he’s leaving a lot of money on the table. Which I believe he did.
Oi, I don’t know if I can make it through this game.
by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 3:06 PM CDT reply actions
Hope we get the good Supp today
Maybe a good thing that he’s not pitching in a cold damp start – didn’t work out so well last time.
Huh

So instead of the brewer's game I am getting the Indians v. Reds game
Fausto Carmona is pitching for the tribe. He is seriously one of the best pitchers in the majors though he probably doesn’t get as much hype as he should. He also is one of the most interesting pitchers out there. I wonder how both the scouts and the stat guys missed on him?

He never was higher than like 70th on BA's top 100
And only rated one time. He was always behind Sowers who might still be something but clearly not that good. I don’t think BP ever rated him in their top prospects list.
by dixieflatline on May 17, 2008 3:19 PM CDT up reply actions
So I have a theory
I think sinkerballs are consistently underrated by both the scouts and projections like PECOTA. Webb was never on a prospects list. Westbrook and Lowe only once and only in the bottom 50. If you look at PECOTA’s top comps to many sinkerballs you get non-sinkerballs which I think is part of it’s problem. It is only a theory right now however.

McCarver informs us that this is a good hitting situation. Thanks, Tim.
He's extremely quick and good.
gotta appreciate gameday

You wonder if if he would be better than Dillon over the season. The problem is he is left handed and so are Gwynn and Counsell. It sure would be nice to have his power for some pinch hitting situations though.

I would love to see Tony return to the home of country music
Branyan can platoon with Hall while also sharing backup corner OF duties; Kapler can handle center.

I like your thinking on this. In the long run, I think Gwynn would be better off with regular at bats.
He's the round mound of profound
