Game Thread #43: Brewers at Red Sox

Different thread, same day.

It'll be Dave Bush vs. Tim Wakefield, or more appropriately, Ryan Braun vs. the amount of runs Bush allows.

Game time is who knows, and it's not on TV.

Go Brewers!

Come on now...

Prince looked pretty comfortable at the plate in game 1. A few more feet on one of his doubles and there’s a different outcome. I know that’s not what happened, but there’s a chance Ryan Braun won’t have to knock in 7 runs for us to win. If Prince knocks in 3, then Braun will only have to knock in 4….

Bad game for Corey Hart this afternoon… the Red Sox were begging to get beat if Hart gets even one hit in his RBI opportunity ABs…

I wonder if watching Dickey pitch last year will help Braun or Dillon?

Charlie Haeger and that Zink guy are in the IL so this could be the first time a lot of our batters see a knuckleball.

BR Game Preview

Kapler v. Wakefield—18 PAs, 1143 OPS

Bush v Lugo—18 PAs, 247 OPS

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on May 17, 2008 6:53 PM CDT   0 recs

he's supposed to be

Tom H’s blog this morning said Braun would DH and Kapler would play left.

Also, cheese.

oh glorious day!

that’s the way game1 should have been set up. Perhaps with someone else at 3B too, but Ned either only makes one substitution or like 6 at once.

TV

If you subscribe to DirecTV extra innings you can watch a thumbnail of the game on Channel 720

by statsllc on May 17, 2008 6:57 PM CDT   0 recs

well, that's odd

It must be a national blackout on mlb.tv, because I can’t access the stream from Milwaukee or San Francisco (let’s assume that I quickly went to San Francisco to test).

My Hero

Are you the Flash? Your cat like speed is amazing.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 7:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's nothing

I just popped over to London and then realized it had nothing to do with a national blackout

Amazing..

But what happens if the tubes are clogged? You know they aren’t like trucks, they are a series of tubes.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 7:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's bad news

If the tubes are clogged, then I have to actually work

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 7:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugh..

True.. if Watertown goes down..wait who gives a shit. Like they use their systems anyways.

Wow I need a new job.

err...

I’m in that area (northern Cal) so…if you want someone to check again, you can just e-mail me your mlb.tv password:P

Does this sound right?

Official rules: 6.05 (g) – A batter is out when his fair ball touches him before touching a fielder.

If so, Lugo was called out correctly.

Random Gripes

I read the Sports Illustrated article on the Brewers this week.

I saw their mention of Stetter having been the “Candy Man” for the bullpen. As any of my co-workers will tell you, I absolutely love all candy, especially milk chocolate based treats. However, I think the last thing a major leaguer needs on-the-job is a sugar high.

I’m not saying that they should have only health food out there and frankly, I’d rather have them chewin’ tobacco out there, as at least that won’t negatively impact their game (their lives, sure…but not their game:P). Ideally, it’d be good if they could have a trail mix or a protein bar or something…but not something that will leave them crashing in about 30 minutes.

Also, does hazing the new guys really bind a team together? If I was the new guy it would negatively impact my performance. I know I’m not a pro athlete, but I sure as hell do worse when others make me jump through unneeded hoops.

by PagsBrewCrew on May 17, 2008 7:15 PM CDT   0 recs

some FSN feature showed the clubhouse

Saw boxes of candy bars including one of Snickers. There is also a mini short order grill.

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 7:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

snickers has some redeeming qualities

seems to give me a burst of energy for my workouts without crashing me, but that might just be trying to justify my own habits.

Twix completely wipes me out though:P

In any case, i think a powerbar protein plus, etc would be better for them if they NEED a candybar. And if they’re just sucking on blowpops, someone should call their mommies to spank them for improper nutrition;)

Hall @ .203

I saw someone ask in the earlier game’s thread if he was above or below .200

Key game

Trying to stay above the Pirates.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 7:22 PM CDT   0 recs

The Pirates?

The Crew needs to win to stay ahead of the Reds

Bakered

Some where Dusty Baker plots to have a race for the bottom. Who will win, Yost or Baker?

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 7:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Same thing?

Isn’t it the same thing? Sure Baker has a longer leash though, seeing as he’s new.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 7:31 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

GM is new in Cincy though

Jockety is used to working with LaRussa. Dusty is probably a big change.

Drink more?

What if Baker drinks more? That make Jockety feel more at home?

Heyo! Cheap shot low blow. I’ll be here all week, don’t forget to tip your waitress.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 7:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

aren't knuckleballers

supposed to throw a lot in the dirt?
If so, does this mean we should get a lot of hits with the balls being this high in the zone?

by PagsBrewCrew on May 17, 2008 7:40 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

looks like Ryan’s strike 3 wasn’t close – low and away

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 7:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

ouch...

that was apparently brutal

by PagsBrewCrew on May 17, 2008 7:41 PM CDT   0 recs

Game?

Wow.. I’m mr. negative right now. But already a hole, that game?

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 7:51 PM CDT   0 recs

How long before someone is up in the bullpen?

What a way to hit the majors if it is DiFelice.

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 7:54 PM CDT   0 recs

2-0 lead with the way we are hitting right now

This game might already be over in the first ;)

It is going to be a long painful summer if this keeps up

Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.

by WSB Chris on May 17, 2008 7:55 PM CDT   0 recs

naw...

...we’re only down two, and Braun hit a homer earlier and is having some 2 HR days lately. In other words, we’re quite a bit in this one.

Game Channel

Is anyone else having trouble loading it?

"Brett Favre looks like a man in a parking lot playing with boys." - John Madden
"Pujols just unloaded." - Bob Uecker

One good thing about NESN

This Heidi Watney person

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 8:08 PM CDT   0 recs

A Bush fastball hit 92

he’s been throwing harder lately it seems. Could it be a Maddux mechanical correction?

And he’s out of the second. Maybe its the ol’ first and sixth where he gives up runs. Just don’t let him pitch the sixth.

radio ad on WTMJ

Bruce Froemming tells me that seniors should be active. I guess it is radio.

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 8:14 PM CDT   0 recs

That was a pretty shallow hit

Counsell wasn’t going to make it

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 8:20 PM CDT   0 recs

really bad sign

Powell referred to Cam as Ricky

by ol Pete on May 17, 2008 8:22 PM CDT   0 recs

man

That was bad news.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 8:23 PM CDT   0 recs

They really need to stop trying stuff like that

Cameron accidentally runs into some pitches, but counting on him to put a bat on the ball is asking for trouble.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 8:24 PM CDT   0 recs

wow

That was a seriously bad pitch

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 8:32 PM CDT   0 recs

Nah..

We’ve got Math on our side.

by SgtClueLs on May 17, 2008 8:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

How many times

do they need to show that Manny “high-five” play? I think I’ve seen it 20 times in the past 2 days.

by oconnobe on May 17, 2008 8:34 PM CDT   0 recs

funny thought

2 years ago who would have thought that at this moment Rickie’s defense would be the strongest part of his game ;)

Its funny but not ha ha funny

Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.

by WSB Chris on May 17, 2008 8:37 PM CDT   0 recs

These announcers are petty

Commenting on how bad Kapler’s team did last year, and commented earlier that someone faster than Fielder would have had a triple.

by Marty McSuperFly on May 17, 2008 8:41 PM CDT   0 recs

Wow..

It’s not like Big Pappy has wheels. Please…
