Gamel #1, LaPorta #3 on BA's Hot Sheet
Last week, LaPorta was #1. It's been a good couple of weeks for Huntsville, and with Gallardo's injury, there's a distinct possibility either Gamel or LaPorta gets traded for some pitching at some point this season.

I wonder
What would LaPorta or Gamel be worth in a trade? If you were to trade one for a major league starter right now, what kind of pitcher would you expect in return?

I could be way off...
... but my guess is you’d end up with someone who offers the same kind of production as Suppan or the guys at the back of our rotation. Unless of course there’s a genuine 1 or 2 out there hitting free agency and Melvin’s willing to take on a rental. But somehow I doubt that latter scenario will happen.

Texas looks like they have two solid catching prospects
behind Salty. If we can’t turn one of those guys into a decent SP prospect adding a catcher would be nice.

you cannot
trade those guys right now. people need to realize that the brewers cannot mortgage their future to try to win this year. LaPorta and Gamel are the best hitting prospects we have right now. what are we going to do after the core we have leaves? we have to replace them with more talent…...like laporta and gamel.
plus, you are not going to get a stud pitcher for just one of those players. you get a starter like erik bedard for four or five prospects like laporta and gamel. we’re not going to be able to do a one-for-one swap and get someone worthwhile. we have to stick with what we have and develop from within.
I actually wrote an article on this for my blog. Check it out if you want. It will not be popular with the “sign Fielder and Sheets to long-term contract” people.
