Game Thread #45: Brewers (20-24) at Pirates (21-23)
It's Manny Parra vs. Paul Maholm. Here's the BR Game Preview. Game time is 6:05 CT.
For all the struggles the Brewers have had against Pittsburgh, we did win the series (handily, I might add) last year. Whatever else you think about the Pirates, or the Brewers right now, this certainly isn't the same challenge as a weekend at Fenway.
Go Brewers!

Villy out of rotation
What the.. Villy was removed from the rotation and they are putting McClung in his place.
Bush will start the series finale.

But I don't want a McClung Shirt
For some reason I have a hetro man crush on Brewer pitchers. But I seriously don’t want to sport a McClung shirt! My poor villy shirt.
Rest of the story is. Soup will start the Nats series for the extra day of rest. So new rotation is..

Field Better
Man wish I could dig up the Yost quote about putting in Aquino because he can field better. Maybe that’s it, McClung fields better.

Can't independently confirm an actual quote
But I have sources: here’s a forum post on the topic, as well as a JS recap of the game that mentions Wise not fielding a bunt pop up prior to being relieved. Oh, and here’s B-R.com’s play-by-play.

And I can't independently confirm this but
firenedyost.com post
[Aquino was put in because] “he fields his position better.”I don’t even know what the hell that’s supposed to mean. Is that supposed to be some kind of dig on Matt Wise for not catching the popup bunt? If that’s your intention, Bill Hall seems to play better defense the closer he gets to home plate (woo, extrapolation) - perhaps this is when he should get that much-anticipated pitching appearance. Maybe Yost expected Garner to play for one run - lay down a sac bunt or two, maybe a stolen base mixed in. If that’s the case, you can almost see the logic. From where I was sitting (what’s up, section 214?!?), Greg Aquino sucks with runners on base, and that overrules pretty much everything else.

Wise appeared banged-up after the play, squatting behind the mound and repeatedly adjusting his belt or his cup. Manager Ned Yost elected to call for Aquino.“To be honest with you, Aquino fields his position better,” Yost later reasoned. “He slide-steps better, has a quicker delivery to the plate. When Burke got on first base, they’re looking to bunt, to hit-and-run, to steal. To be more defensive, we went with Aquino right there.”
He's extremely quick and good.

He'll be in the bullpen.
I admit we seem to be the only two people around who didn’t want to see McClung retroactively DFA’ed, but WTF? WTF? WTF? So is DiFelice now the crappy short reliever?

Idea for a new video
Hidden moments of FSN – see infielders catching liners – watch play down the left field line – and much more. Narrated by Craig Coshun.

the FSN cameraman was watching gameday
It skipped to the next inning without showing the results of the play. kinda like the FSN cameraman was fooled by the play itself..
